Post by The Waterboy Fri Sep 05, 2008 6:12 pm

Had my XC time trial today. I got 6th place on my team in a time of 20:14. I know the time wasn't that great but I'm just really happy I was able to sneak a spot in the top 7. If I keep this up for two more meets, I'll be on varsity for at least the first meet, and hopefully keep it from then on.

I started really slow in the race, maybe 15-20th place, then gradually worked my way from .5 miles to 1.5 miles into 6th place. I surged up the final hill before the 2 mile mark, and then was able to keep 6th place from then on. I almost caught the guy in 5th until he started sprinting because he heard me. I'm very happy I did well.

We did our first intervals of the year yesterday. It was 5x1k which is a really easy workout, but still enough to leave you sore after doing easy aerobic miles for the past 3 months. Today our dumbass coaches decided to do an intense hill workout. Everyone who's smart just jogged it.

So 1.5 mile warm up, 2x5 400m hill circuit (easy) then 3 miles easy back to school.

So about 7 miles today. This stupid training schedule is fucking up my mileage.

how is 5x1k easy? that's a hard workout if you run it right.

and going slow when you're supposed to go fast isn't smart, it's being a sissy.

Hopefully we have our first meet tomorrow, but hurricane Hanna is supposed to hit in the morning. Fingers crossed--I am dying to run!

So we just did an easy four today, followed by a pasta party and football game (not really part of the workout, but fun anyway!)

Doing two hard anaerobic workouts two days in a row after doing nothing but long easy aerobic runs with occasional tempos for three months isn't smart.

And yeah, I guess the 1000's workout wasn't that easy, it just seems like you guys do a lot harder workouts a lot more often. Lol, idk. I had just woken up when I wrote it.
