He can't do a lot of the things he said he would in our system. He's also always going on about changing America but he rarely specifies what he's going to do.funrunner wrote:I just have to add something.
What makes you think Obama's promises are empty? I know I said I wasn't paying much attention to the race, but I'm pretty sure you have pretty much no basis for saying that Obama won't fulfill his promises. The fact that someone can make good speeches isn't the best reason to vote for him, but it sure as hell isn't a reason to vote against him.
BTW, that quote train on the first page was getting pretty awesome. Keep up the good work.

He has good speaking skills though.
Also when it comes election time, we'll see what Obama does with his power.
Speaking skills are everything! Look back at John F. Kennedy, his debates were everything in that election

Speaking skills are good for getting elected, but if you rely only on speaking skills to get elected you will probably not be as good a president, though I admit they are needed at some times.SourWorms wrote:FK wrote:Good speaking skills don't mean anything. Exactly, they are key to getting elected, which is the point i was making. Although Kennedy got elected, his domestic policies sucked. But of course his foreign policies were top notch.

Re: Obama vs. McCain
That makes sense, speaking skills are used in foreign policy a lot more than domestic. I'm saying that if we elect Obama based on his speaking skills, he'll disappoint us domestically.SourWorms wrote:Exactly, they are key to getting elected, which is the point i was making. I'm not really into either canidate, but I can't vote yet so that doesn't matter.
I guess I would pick Obama because Mccain supports draft. So, I wouldn't want all my guy friends or even girls to be called into war the next few years.

The draft is a huge issue. It could mean you could be dragged of to fight a war, no matter if you agree with it or not. I know it's not likely, but the principle that's important. I'd consider any leader who supports the draft a tyrant. Just like I think all the euro nations leaders who have mandatory national service are tyrants

Ok sorry, it may be a big issue to someone else. But personally I don't think the draft is the most important issue by a long shot.thelagwagon wrote:FK wrote:Sorry but that's a lame reason.xotrackkgirl wrote:I'm not really into either canidate, but I can't vote yet so that doesn't matter.

Re: Obama vs. McCain
I don't think the draft will ever receive the public report needed to be reinstated. Our elected officials don't want to lose precious votes because they killed off our country's young men in Iraq or *gulp* Iran. If the draft is reinstated, it will be because of a global conflict involving more than simple Muslim partisans.
And I do believe that McCain strongly opposes the draft (at least last I saw, which was a while back), but he has been known to flip-flop pretty wildly.

Obama is a politician, that is how I know his promises are empty. It makes me sick to watch his speeches, and see him talk about how he is going to "change america" and give american what it needs, but he NEVER says how. It is all just a big scheme. I'm not saying McCain will be better about keeping promises, but some things Obama have said are just unreasonable and he outright states that he can't tell us his overall plans so he can keep them from getting stolen by other politicians.

Ok. You haven't argued why McCain will be the greatest president in the world. Whatever I would argue you would denie saying McCain is better. So explain your reasoning.
