Re: mantras/ pre race rituals
For XC we always do the same thing before a race.
Hail Mary,
Our lady of the lakes (said by one girl, same girl each time),
(we all say) pray for us,
St. Sebastian, pray for us,
all you saints and angels, pray for us Pleeease.
Then we all just say stuff usually just no one stop or throw up and just different stuff like that.
Then we say dig china deep, run hard, never give up.
Lakers on three 1, 2, 3 Lakers
For me at the start of the race I do the sign of the cross, say a little prayer, and right after the gun sounds I do the sign of the cross as we start. I usually do this for both cross country and track.

Re: mantras/ pre race rituals
I wear a little shoulder patch that has my old middle school's name before a marathon training race
My team takes a pre race pic and then after the race we do a post race picture that is noticeably uglier than the original

Warm up, have a quick team meeting, "two words" basically a two word cheer. Then once the gun goes make the sign of the cross. It doesn't slow you down, you're not running with your arms. . .

You can still get off the line quickly while doing it in the 1500/3000. I wouldn't try it in a sprint, but then again I don't sprint, so I don't have that problem

Pray and then curse? What's the point then?Hurdle-Gurl wrote:My team does a quick kick butt prayer.

When I pray before races I'm sure to say something about giving God the glory, praiseing Him with a good or bad performance, and asking Him to be with me.

Re: mantras/ pre race rituals
sometimes we pray but not always. then we say "irmo" because its our team name. then we say "manross" b/c its the last name of a guy on our team who commited suicide last season.
