    Coach Empty Coach

    Post by T B K Sat Jul 12, 2008 6:00 pm

I'm looking into a coach and I found one who works with kids for free. He works with the area's top runners, including-a 13 year old girl who runs 18's and a 14 year old boy who runs low 17's and a 4:40 mile. This coach apparantly brought both of these athletes to greatness and is taking them to the Junior Olympics. My parents are inquiring into coaching from this man but I'm a little shaky on the decision. The fact that it's free alarms me and gets me suspicious if he is some sexual predator.

    Any suggestions?

a girl around here had her own coach ran 3 road races a week, for the majority of the summer, winning all of them in the low 19's her freshman cross season came and she could barely run 20:30, placing 3rd on her team and not making it to states.

this summer i have yet to see her at a road race.
just shows what could happen to those kids.

Could it not be the fact that he likes getting young runners involved with the sport? I say go for it, but don't assume he made them who they are, genetics plays a role as well.

yea like we had a teacher that got fired he was shady and finally they caught him with drugs and he stole stuff from other teachers and like was supposeively a pervert. and i know a 6th grader that can run in the low 20's for a 5k and her dad is her own personal coach since hes a coach for a cross country team. i wont be shocked if she burns out. but these are besides the point.

i say you should give it a shot if hes supposively that good. just be careful and if the guy seems iffy or anything then stop going to to him

anyways, its not always too good to be true. I'd say go for it, as long as he doesnt burn you out.

Low 20's is not that fast for a girl that doesn't have a grown body. Post-pubescent girls have hips and boobs and extra fat hindering them, whereas 6th graders don't. My friend ran around 20:30 in sixth grade without ever even running before.

I was staying 20:30 wasn't fast for her, like it was hard for her to even run that after running in the low 19's and she can't do that anymore.

I'm in Middle School and our school doesn't have a CC team and our track team is mediocre...all short distance people. But I think I will do it next year.
