Official Burnout Thread......
Burnout has been on my mind a ton lately. Ive built up miles and am just a bit concerned with how good I will be when it matters(athletic prime). To be honest I really really wanna go to the the Olympics in the 800, 1500, or Steeple.

Re: Official Burnout Thread......
Burnouts are mental or a result of overtraining. Overtraining can be fixed by not running as much or just take a mini-vacation from running. Mental burnouts can be fixed by running with friends, running on new trails, new running shoes (i dont know why but when i get new shoes it gives my a mental boost).

I've been hearing alot about me burning out also. And I just want to know when I can start training seriously without any risk of burning out.

Re: Official Burnout Thread......
honestly return...i think during elementry you can run maybe three times a week or something just like 1-3 miles each day and then the summer before seventh grade maybe do like 20mpw and talk to your coach and stuff about it..and then don't increase over 30mpw in jr. high then when you get to high school i think you can start really training but of course be smart about it start off at like 20mpw the first week and then you can get up to like 40..idk just my opinion because your body isn't ready to do 30-40mpw week at your age thats just how it is.

It's going to be almost impossible to bring my mileage down that much for that long, I just wish that I would've gotten into running later

I really, really like wrestling. It's probably my second favorite sport I could just focus on that more. But still it's not the same.

I wouldn't race. Look at the kenyans, they start running anywhere from 6-15 miles a day in 3rd grade, but this is just to get to school. They don't look at it as training for a race. But when they get older, they have a huge aerobic capacity, which is the defining factor in performance. If you start running LSD now, and continually improve your bodies efficiency, you'll be a beast in high school.
Just remember to listen to your body, especially at your age. If you have any aches and pains, take a couple days off. Even if you just don't feel like running, don't. Keep finding new ways to make running fun, and don't put too much stress on yourself about it. You've got like 8 years. When you feel like it, go out and run as far as you want at an easyish pace. You don't need to be worrying about tempos and fartleks and intervals right now. I'm not positive, but I'd imagine you could destroy any fifth grade track meet off 20 miles each week, with most of them at a leisurely pace.

Re: Official Burnout Thread......
so at 20 miles a week I won't burnout? Because I'm fine with twenty mile per week

Just make as little as possible of it intense. People always think that too much mileage is the main reason for burnout. It's not. Intense running (fartleks, tempos, intervals) are much harder on the body that a lot of mileage. I'd even say you should SLOWLY up the mileage, so that by the time you're in 7th-8th grade you're running 50ish mpw easily. The main reason the kenyans are as good as they are is because they began developing their aerobic capacity at an early age.
