Dead Week

Is it just Michigan or do all states have "Dead Weeks" in the summer?

Dead Week: A week in which coaches & athletes cannot have contact with one another or have organized practices with the coach involved.

This week is our dead week and it totally blows already. Two of my running partners went to XC camp this week, another one went camping with her family, & to make matters even worse it's dead week so I can't run with my coach.

If your state does have a dead week what do you think about it?
I don't mind it too much but it just kinda stinks that I have to run by myself this week & XC season starts next week.

I've run by myself all summer.

Our whole summer is like that.

We're not aloud to have practices together or with our coach.

I'm not sure how well-enforced the laws are where you are, but I bet you could run with other members of your team (or even your coach) anyway and no one would care. We keep away from our coach during the summer, but that's because he lives out in the city. Otherwise, we would probably just continue to practice.

Aside from that, running by yourself isn't so bad.

I actually enjoy running by myself, it allows me to do what i want freely

We can run with our teammates but all the girls I've been running with are away. I ran the first 2 weeks of June on my own because everyone was taking a break but I just got so used to running with people since then. It should be ok I just think I'll have trouble pushing myslef to want to go farther.

Thats how my whole summer waas too iwe get to meet again on the 11th. I dont mind running by myself.On easy runs u dont have ppl trying to race u

nothing like that. we get to practice whenever we want here. we could start in march if we wanted, its pretty awesome.

Yeah, we're not supposed to have practices w/ our coach all summer... but a few of us have been running regularly and our coach sent out an e-mail telling the whole team when and where we were running. But I think pretty much all the teams in our area do something similar.

yeah, the first week in july we had a "moratorium week". basically the same thing as your dead week. the state just wanted to give athletes a break in case coaches were too hard on them. our coach gave us the mileage he wanted us to hit. we got together as a team like 2 or 3 times that week. then I just ran the rest by myself. & we got to run with the track coach one day.
that is bad timing with you..everyone going away & xc season next week. but at least it's only a week

yeah our coaches starting enforcing that because I guess our sports director (he hates my coach) had a hissy fit we were practicing together. My coach doesnt even send me emails or anything.

so its like a dead summer.

You'd be surprised. If a rival school catches you practicing I bet it's be enforced.

We did that last year, fucking Portland was holding practices all summer, but we couldn't prove it I guess.

nobody else on my team is even running this summer lol.
