How is your season going this(ese) first week(s)?

Post by XCTrackXC on Sat Aug 23, 2008 7:14 pm

For me not too bad, not amazing either, but so-so... I'm still really looking forward to it though. I ran pretty consistently the first half of the summer then pretty much slacked/had some minor injuries the second half Laughing We're about a week and a half in now, so far I've at least managed to tie (give or take a few seconds) my PR from last year (in the last 3 miles of a 5 mile run). My other runs have been kinda bleh, but I'm still hoping to get a nice shiny new PR at my first meet in a little over a week.

So how is yours, anyone PR already or really pleased/bummed about the beginning of their season?

I'm really bummed about my mile, 13 seconds off of what I had in track and two places off of where I wanted to be.

Pretty crummy. 21:37 5k time trial. We had some guys go from 21:12 to 17:55, 20:40 to 17:45, and 20:30 to 17:30 and I put in a whole lot more summer miles than they did last year, so I'm not too worried. If I don't get down to 18:20ish by the end of the season I may just have to live the fact that I suck.

its weird becuase we dont do the same things that i did at my other school. like, we dont strech before, and we dont do warm up run/ lap, and so far, no conditioning.

I'm only three days into practice and it's a drag. We have 45-60 minute runs that usually go into about 6:30-7:00 pace depending if we're on flats or hills. Pennsylvania's rolling hills suck I'll tell you that.

we ran a meet on a very hard course and i got 16 in the 4K but I'm not worried because Laura Roesler ran the same course and same distance and got the same exact time as me.

Like RB said before your fitness goes down in the summer if you do all easy base miles. You put in a lot of miles so don't get discouraged, you'll have a good peak when it comes this season and you'll be a lot faster than you are now.

I'm a touch discouraged about my actual times (basically the same as I was getting last year), because I did so much work over the summer. But I am ahead of where I thought I'd be, place-wise, and compared to everyone else my times are more consistent (no one really improved yet). Top three right now, so I'm not going to complain about that!

Practices don't start officially until tomorrow, and our first meet isn't until the 12th, but so far the few practices we have had have sucked.

today is my second day of practice. and so far its crummy as well. its not going to be the same without the seniors and the new freshman really suck. half of them dont want to be there and the ones that do still cant run for crap. but hopefully they will stay and get better so we can have a full team.

We've already had 2 races in 2 weeks of practice. Compared to last year's times for both races I was 1:30 faster this year than last year! Pretty sAweet!
The only thing that kinda sucks so far is the whole Team Captain thing. Our coach is saying that whoever turns in a letter can be captain but the team will vote at the end of the year as to whther they deserve their title... We have about 12 girls and about 5 people are turning in letters! I think that we should just vote right now on 2 people for captains because some girls are turning into people that they aren't because this whole captain thing is driving them cRaZy!
Other than that the season looks bright.

WOW! I know this is crap, but we ran that race the I got 16 remember? Well it was long. My coach converted our times and said mine was a 12.59. I told him that was complete crap and he went on telling us that even the coach from the rival school agreed it was accurate. WOOHOO. But I think it was probably actually only like 13.30. Anyways Im happy.
