4 at tempo pace (felt like it, might not have been, but I was still running a good deal faster than usual).

Re: Money Mondailies
My first XC practice ever!!
1 mile warm up
4x800 on hills and grass and such
cool down
The sad thing is that I'm so out of shape that this workout was actually hard haha.

What pace did you run the 800s? It's probable that it was also a stupid workout.

My coach made this up, so yeah, that means it is a stupid workout with no purpose.

Depends on the pace. If they were at vo2 max pace, it's a reasonable workout, although it's too early to be doing it. If it was hilly, it's a good strenght workout, and in general, it's a good way to get people into the habit of running on grass and hills, where most XC meets are run.
