It kind of depends on the pain.. if you have been stretching religiously and possibly applying heat with no change, definitely take some time off. The rule of thumb is that if the "pain" affects the way you run, you should stop immediately as it can cause new problems. If after taking a few days off you feel no difference, consider going to a specialist.

u should know if the pain is actual hurt pain, or pain from running. like soreness, tightness ect. just stretch, and ice them.

how do you not know what draining is? well ill explain young grass hopper...
put your legs diagonally on a wall straight up and lay there for like 15 min. and your blood gets flowing and it makes you feel funny right after but, you won't be sore the next day. idk why it works but it does.

we always do that after speedworkouts so we dont get really tight legs. it does help.
oh it works cuz it helps get the lactic acid out of your legs. when you dont do that it just stays there and causes your muscles to get tight. thats why like "drain" makes sense, as in you drain the lactic acid out of your legs.

Buy the stick too. See if you can get one off of ebay, it is REALLY nice. I got mine from a garage sail and use it twice a day for preventative purposes, and then 5-6 times a day on really tight muscles to work them out (like my calf right now, it is cramped constantly).

we do that "drain" thing too between races at meets. my coach insists its such bs but it gives us an excuse to lay down. and i kinda agree with my coach...but whatever, i do it anywaqy
