But I get out of shape to fast and I dont feel like going back to zero, so my coach says 2 weeks..but I'm thinking maybe 1 week then 1 week cross training weights etc.
If you get out of shape fast you just don't have a good base.

So what type of weight training, if any, are you looking at doing over winter?

now what will your routine look like?

do you do heavy weights, and try to max out; or go for reps?

what are the best excercises to benefit track?

my season ends tmr, so i'm gonna take 9-14 days off, probably closer to 14 because i've been feeling mentally exauhsted for a long time now (i've had a ton of stress from school, and doing bad in my races recently hasnt been helping).

So I went to the doctor yesterday about my knee, and they said that I have bad patellar tendinitis and plica syndrome. My coach is really trying to push with the physical therapy to get me in for regionals, but I think I won't be ready and I'll run a crappy race. Plus, I m mentally exhausted from everything this season. I'm behind in school and I have to stay up until 2AM to finish homework. I am going to take a 2 week break and then start base for track.

Man, I can't wait for track season!

If your not injuried or anything sure. I only took 3 days off from track before starting xc base. I'm taking a month off now though because I want to make sure my ankle is healed 100% before I start running again. Swimming starts in 2 or 3 weeks though.
    Maybe that's why.

Are you saying I hurt my ankle 5 months later because I only took a 3 day break inbetween track and xc base?

do you really need a FULL month to know if your ankle is better? I'd try for a short (like 2 miles) run after 2 weeks, and go from there.

Anyway, I'm not feeling run down that much from track, so I'm going to go for an easy 3 miles today, officially marking the first day of Winter Training Very Happy

I have a race that I already paid for and I have to do decent to win the racing series I did in the summer (6 of the 7 races are in the summer and 1 is in 2 weeks). I think I'll jog it and use it to test out my ankle.

If you guys remember earlier, I wanted to run 120 mpw but it was a bit too much so I peaked ran between 80-85 mpw. Two times every week I doubled and I ran 15-20 miles on Saturdays with Sundays off. Right now I'm running sectionals with two other teammates. Hopefully I can make it too state. My pr for 3 mile is 16:07 at Detwiller Park. (very fast and flat course).

I really encourage you guys to really run high mileage. Trust me... you will see huge gains. Letsrun has helped me alot. Maybe later on I'll start making weekly advice threads which I hope will help you guys if RWS allows me to.

+1. I feel so much stronger just doing 50-60 mpw, once I can regularly get there, and up to 70 mpw (goal for winter base) I feel I'm going to really start blasting times.
