I have shin splints and I think I have gotten to it before it gets bad. For any of you who have had it, what should I do? Any tips that have worked for you?

Do an exercise where you post up next to a fence and you keep your heels on the ground and you raise your toes in the air up and down.

Re: Shin Splints: Tips?
No, your not doing heel raises. Your keeping your heels on the ground. You will feel it in the shins.

+whatever.
I do those before I go to bed and I haven't had shin splints yet. I do the elastic band one and the weights between your feet one.

It's good to do heel walks before you run too (facing in, out, backward, forward).

Re: Shin Splints: Tips?
walk on your heels for a couple minutes everyday, in addition to excersizes that strengthen the muscle by the shin.

Re: Shin Splints: Tips?
Shin splints (like runner's knee) is caused by a weak muscle struggling to support a new stress load. Contrary to popular belief, it really won't kill you to just run through them. But to make them go away faster, and help avoid them in the future use the strengthening exercises that everyone else gave, and like Pinthin said, RICE them.

Don't get a stress fracture from them though.
