Wrong.
I think the idea is that your heel hits the ground, and then if there's excessive cushioning it moves downward a little bit. over the course of hundreds of miles this can stretch the achilles and cause achilles tendonitis
Too much (or any for that matter) cushioning takes stress off the foot muscles, but adds the same amount of stress to the ankles and shins, resulting in injuries. This is why barefoot strides/barefoot running is a good idea, to strengthen the foot muscles and allow them to take on some of the stress that has been added to the ankles knees and shins.

i've been training in the Mizuno Wave Precision 8's. their pretty nice
i'll get some flats when the season starts...our xc races are like 80% paved, so spikes are a no go.

Re: shoes. lets get some shoes.
trainers- saucony progrid trigon 5 guide
other trainers- nike air zoom hayward
I use these for road races and for home track and xc meets (our track is pavement and most of our xc course is too) because I can't wear spikes and these are a lot lighter than my regular trainers
spikes- saucony kilkenny xc
Sadly, I only get to use these at away meets, so I don't wear them that much

I actually like the Haywards a lot so far (I just got them, and I've only used them a couple of times). They're really soft and they have good cushioning, but they're still A LOT lighter than the other trainers that I have.

Re: shoes. lets get some shoes.
I think its because they look really stiff or something, hmm are they flexible??
I was looking into getting a pair of nike trainers and something light so this might be the answer.

kilkennys are good spikes. a tad heavier than the forevers but just as good as something like the nike waffles.

my trainers:
nike air zoom road explosion 2
my spikes:
asic gel dirt dog 2
okay, the trainers take awhile to get used to. they have very little cushion and are very much like nike frees. they do make your foot a lot stronger and after about a week or two of intense pain wearing these, youll be very unlikely to injuries. they're very very light.
my spikes are the best shoes ive ever had. it feels like more cushioning then any trainer ive ever had even. they feel liike a glove and are currently some of the lightest on the market. they're only 5 ounces. they just feel amazing. you can also change between 6 pins to 6 rubber spider-like things for races that cross over pavement.

I only do it on easy days or recovery.
Basically I just run around our schools soccer and football field and our track (its all like one giant field).
