What to wear on race day?

I'm doing an open track meet on Friday, with some pretty big competition. In the 1500m there are 4 guys with seed times that convert to sub-4 miles, and one of the guys is on Team Canada, going to Beijing in August.

My question is what should I wear on top: My old school's singlet, a generic old t-shirt, or should I go out and buy a singlet that doesn't have any team affiliations? It will be pretty hot at racetime, and I'm racing the 3000m.

Are you allowed to wear your school's singlet? If so, I would wear that. If not, buy a white singlet, wearing a t-shirt against that kind of competition will make you look like a noob.

general singlet...when i do open meets like that i wear my nicest running shorts and something like this

How do the people on this forum afford to buy all this different race gear when they barely even need it?

i'd go with the school singlet.

Just wear a t-shirt. A singlet really won't make you any faster. Unless you can wear your schools singlet.

Why wouldn't I be? I just forgot to return it after track season, and nobody wears them anyway. . .

I'll probably end up looking like a noob when I come last, but I suppose I won't look like a noob at the starting line then . . .

It would be worse if you wore a t-shirt. I don't think we're allowed to wear a school singlet here in New York, but then again we're still in High School.

Go with another singlet if you have one. If you don't have one, go with the school singlet. Our school singlets aren't very good, so that's why I'd recommend another one.

That's something to consider, I hadn't thought about that because my school's singlets are really good, plus we're getting ones for just XC is year and we get to keep the shorts. I'll measure them when I get them for anyone who saw my pic of the other really short ones lol.

Only very marginally. Not enough to have a singlet, and I put down on the registration that I was Unattached.

Last race I wore it I did terribly. I'm leaning towards another singlet, because this one isn't that comfortable, and I don't actually GO to the school anymore, I'm just a coach.

In the end I went and picked up a nice nike singlet. Set me back a fair bit but it's really nice.
