Re: 800m!
personaly I run negative splits. I usually go 61-59 something in that area. I love staying in the back and out kicking everybody. Not only do you stay out of trouble, you look good in the process, except the times were I feel dead and don't have a kick, then it just sucks.

Put an base in now, run XC, and then sprint in track.

Re: 800m!
I still have track 3 days a week (training probably for 400/lj/maybe 800 or HJ?). I thought I'll do 800 training another 3 days. Rest one day/cross train?. And strength train (30 min core/arms) about 6 days.
So this week would look something like this... (it's going to be tough considering I have field hockey everyday for 3 hours)
1.- warmup, 2x800, 2x600, 1x400, 1x200, cooldown - 30 min strength
2.- track practice- 30 min strength
3.- track practice- 30 min strength
4.- track practice- 30 kin strength
5.- rest day. bike ride?
6.- 3 mile tempo- strength
7- timed 800 (to track progress) few easy recovery miles
* I have no idea what the heck I'm doing, so feel free to correct me! && thanks for all your suggestions.

Re: 800m!
yeah, just try the 800.
To me, its a fun event.
Since I have terrible sprint speed, anything less then 2 miles i'm not very good at. I ran a 2:49 and I was happy.

Re: 800m!
the 800 is my favorite. i take a predictor test and then take those splits but i use a different strategy then most. im really expected as winning all my races being they're middle school races in track and not a lot can do sub-2.40. but i like it when youre down and have to push so you know you gave your all. i run the first 400 two seconds behind pace and the third 200 as a full-on sprint, back off for about 30 meters and go for position the last 170.

Thanks, RWS! I decided not to do strength on track days to let my muscles rest a bit.

Re: 800m!
The 800 is definately my favorite race because it's long enough to get a really good burn going, but not so long that I get stupid songs stuck in my head. I usually run positive splits just because I like the way it feels to go out fast. The kick at the end is definately my favorite part, though.

The death at the end is definitely my favorite part of an 800m race.

Re: 800m!
I never really gave the 800 a fair shot. A lot of my weanie friends did it because they didn't want to be sprinters but they thought the mile was too long. I may have forgotten to mention to them how much less painful the mile is. Silly me.

Perhaps some easy mileage? I'd also suggest doing a base phase sometime soon, although if you're competing regularly, now isn't the time. Although, if you're doing XC, Winter track, Spring track and Summer track your long term development will suck if you don't put any base in and peak 4 times a year.
