800m!
I'm in a summer track league, and I'm going to try the 800m. I've been training for sprints since March, but I haven't been target training for the 800. I might have a meet tomorrow. Do you think I should just go out tomorrow(?) and run the 8 to just see how I do, or train for another week and then try it? And, do you have any good tips for the 800?

Re: 800m!
thanks, guys! I think I'm going to try it. I'm just worried about my pace because I'm so used to sprints. Is it okay to also do the 400 in a short amount of time?

I did it with the 800 then the 4x4 less then 50 mins later, it depends though, like I was really tired in the 400, but I think it is managable.

Re: 800m!
in one of my dual meets, the order of events got messed up so the final 2 races were the 800 then the 4x4 and i was running both so i had to finish my 800 and my rest was walking to the starting line and waiting for the first 2 legs to run..uckk

Yeah, one time I had to run a mile, watch our coaches run a 4 x 1, and then run a 4 x 400.

Re: 800m!
back to backs are horrible. i had 2 swimming relays one after the other with a 1 second break.
Okay, I'm just soo nervous! Especially because my sister is ranked like 3rd in the state or something. (she's 15 months younger). There's lots of pressure! I keep telling myself not to compare or anything, but it's hard. ya know? (about the 800)

Re: 800m!
I just wanted to know ho competitive it was. 2:29 isn't that good for 3rd at state, but it is good for a 12 year old.xotrackkgirl wrote:eehh, i don't really want to give that out. it was cyo states. (so catholic rankings)

try it, its only 800m, so its not like a marathon where u might injure yourself from running it.
it will be good practice

I would rather run a marathon then an 800. The 800 is by far the hardest event in track, well that or the 300-400 hurdles.

not for me, because I would just run it at like 9 min pace.

Re: 800m!
they will show you which line to start at then when to cut in and everything..theres an official at the mark where you cut in. Don't worry the starter explains everything and if you don't understand then just ask.

Re: 800m!
I love the 800 definitely my favorite event
I always go out pretty fast the first lap, like at state around 53-54, then just try to hold on for another lap. Positive splits are the way to go when you run an 800

Re: 800m!
alright, I went out today with no 800 training and ran a 2:50.
I'm going to try and get high 2:30's in the next few months.
Any suggestions on how to train?
