Probably quite a bit, but if you start back up again, you're likely to bounce back pretty quickly.

I think that after 3 weeks off, you return to pretraining fitness...I think...

Not that much, the bigger concern is how much you missed out on by not stepping forward in your training, not moving backward.

if you were training consistently 7 days a week this summer, then your base should be solid enough to handle a week off. i still can't understand why you've totally stopped running. maybe your job will force you to cut your mileage back, but I find it hard to believe that you have no time to run.....you found time to make this thread confused

so if Bernard Lagat took 3 weeks off, I could beat him in a race?

ok, maybe not, but I thought I read that in an article that talked about winter training and not taking too much time off. But maybe not.

    1 week: (.994)(pre-setback vdot)
    3 weeks: (.952)(pre-setback vdot)

    Thank you, Daniels.

As you can see that's really hardly anything, like I said before the biggest drawback to not training for a week is the fitness you didn't gain.

Daniels does all his testing on world-class athletes with years of base...I think the effect of 3 weeks off would be a lot bigger on a kid who most likely has a shaky base, if he even has a base at all

I ran a mile two weeks into my base training and it nearly mirrored that loss of fitness.

haha I knew someone would ask that. I used a computer at work. I'm going to quit soon. I just needed to give a 2 week notice before I quit.

I was going to type something long and mean, but I decided to shorten and sweeten it. You won't lose that much fitness, but just go out and run. I know people who would kill to have your schedule but still make it out there, so just making running your priority no matter what time of day.
