    Mileage Empty Mileage

Post by Tri Babe 518 Mon Aug 04, 2008 11:36 am

I really like higher mileage (47 mpw last week felt great), but my coaches say that they'd rather see me around 30 mpw and have the 5k be really easy for me. I don't know what to do because I want to double and get more miles, but they tell me not to. I am a little sore this week only because I jumped for 35 mpw to 47 mpw. If I gradually build up to 50 mpw by the end of the season, I think I can do well.

It sucks hearing my coaches talking about all these other field hockey players and soccer players and how great they could be (ex: "She could win states!!") right in front of my face. Especially when I have to deal with a girl who only started running because I did and now she is beating me at practice. It sucks.

    Help??

Wouldn't the 5k be even easier with more miles?

FK- That's what I think... but they say otherwise...

HXC- I tried talking to my coach about this, but she insists that low mileage is key. I have no clue. She wants me at 30-35 for the majority of the season. ugh.

I don't think it will matter too much, as long as you can make those 35 miles quality.

For your second predicament, sometimes people are better than you. You're going to have to get over it.

As for the first one, it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. Don't ask, just double up and do the mileage. If your coach finds out apologize and say you didn't know (unless you've already asked, in which case you're screwed).

do the mileage anyway. it will only help you if you build up to it. you won't be in trouble if it makes you good.

and don't worry about those other people, maybe with higher mileage you'll beat some people you never have before.

I agree... do what you want to do... as long as you are willing to except the consequences if for some reason it doesn't work out. But I wouldn't tell your coaches unless they specifically ask.
