Well a kid on my team told me to keep it around 150-160 for 30-40 minutes a day for a week, and slowly add time until I can run at a normal pace with it around 150-160 bpm. So I've been literately jogging on the treadmill for the past couple days.
i dont understand...what happened? why are you just jogging around??

Re: I'm screwed
Yeah I know. A kid on my team last year broke his foot, and when he came back to running started using a HRM. He started at 8:30 pace at 155 bpm, and by the end of the winter he was at 5:50 pace at 155 bpm for easy runs. I'm not expecting those kind of results though, because he's a huge talent.BA_Sadie. wrote:HXC_Runner2012 wrote:BA_Sadie. wrote:that reminds me HXC hows the heartrate monitor going for you do you like it?

Re: I'm screwed
yeah good. i like to see people that are actually willing to try HRM's everyone just thinks its a waste of time and stuff but it really isn't if your patient and just do what your supposed to it really does work.

Re: I'm screwed
I would be careful.
A girl on my cross country team runs with a heart murmur, but only under close supervision by her doctor (I think hers is congenital--her sister also has a heart murmur). Especially if you don't know what's causing it, you don't know what could make it worse. I might be tempted to start wearing a h/r moniter so that you can get a baseline of "behavior" through day-to-day things, so that if you're cleared and you start running again, you'll know if something goes wrong (instead of being so tempted to ignore it). I don't know. Definitely go over it with your doctor first.

Yeah. Although I don't have a heart murmur. I was cleared for that and have to follow up about the artery.

Pretty much all athletes have murmurs but almost all the time they are innocent or you out grow them.
