Skipping Cross Country Empty Skipping Cross Country

    Post by runnr4life877 Sat Jun 28, 2008 7:17 pm

Last year, freshman year, I didn't enjoy Cross Country at all. I liked the team, but not the sport. So, this year I don't want to pay 200$ to do something that I don't enjoy.

This leaves me with 7-8+ months till track. Should I even be thinking about track at this time?

If so, how should I divide up my training for such a long time period?

If not, what do you suggest I do?

We're buying shorts, jackets, and pants this year so it will probably be pretty expensive here too.

    I don't know.

At some point you've got to figure out how much more cost-effective it would be to run on your own. I do indoor, even though I hate it, because I know that there's no way I would have the motivation and $$$ to do it by myself. Joining the team gets you racing experience, and a basic level of fitness. If you really hate it, and you feel like you'll be able to keep your endurance/speed for track, maybe talk to your coach to get some mileage to do during xc season and/or the summer.

we have a guy at a school beside us whos really good and just trains for track all year round. he won the 400 state for d2 in 47.?..hes really good.
i'd just say that don't be dumb with your training don't get excited and run to much at the beginning with all that time just kind of get into it slowly and basically do a base until winter maybe do a couple meets here and there but get a killer base then start really training during winter with more speed workouts and that type of stuff. Just what i would do idk though...i would be very motivational deprived to not do xc
(that doesn't make sense but i think you can figure out what i mean lol.)

200$ is a butt ton to do a sport...and if you truly don't enjoy it i don't see why you should do it. It really depends on your own preferences and opinions and how you feel because obviously we all either

A.) Do XC because4 its fun
    B) Do it to stay in shape for track
    C) anything else

Its so much at our school because we had a new high school built and the referendum to supply it with stuff and teachers did not pass. So, instead of not opening it, they decided to just up the cost of everything.

First sport is 200$, second sport is 150$, and then if you do a third it is 100$.

I run the 800, and occasionally the 400.

I do want to try the mile though.

It got you running, but if you did 400m work in the fall instead of XC you would've been even faster in the 400m.

I think it depends on how motivated you will be to run on your own and how comfortable you are with coming up with your own training plan. $200 is a lot of money, but if the x-country coach at your school is good, you may want to do x-country just to be able to have a coach and motivation. But, if you're motivated enough to run every day on your own and think you can do a good job of coaching yourself, then I don't see any reason to do XC if you don't like it.

If you don't do XC, build a huge base and own in track.

If you're training for 400m, you could just peak at that like you would in XC and then use the fitness later on in indoor and outdoor. It's no different.
