That really sucks. It's probably best that you're getting it taken care of this early in the summer so you'll still have a few weeks left for base miles. If it is a stress fracture, it isn't an accident. You should assess your training and see what you need to change to not get hurt.

    Best of luck.

good posting Two-a-days can be useful for high mileage, such as you would be doing while training for a marathon. I know a lot of people on here do them, but I personally think that one hard run is a lot more beneficial than two mediocre ones and there is a decreased chance of injury. I think if you are doing mileage over 60 mpw it can be useful, but you should only be doing that kind of mileage with a lot of experience. Last summer, I peaked at 40 mpw and had a fairly successful xc season ending with two sub-20 5ks (as a girl). Stress fractures are tough; I wish you the best of luck!

hope it isn't stress fractures, but I can't stand pool running, not only do I look like an idiot when I do it, I am completely exhausted after doing it and people look at me all weird.

That is a terrible approach to running. When you feel pain (in most cases, like shin splints), its not going to get better unless you decrease mileage or rest. Why would you risk squeezing in a few extra runs when those few runs could cost you four weeks(or more) with a stress fracture?

yeah keep running so that your out for the whole season instead of stopping running for 2 week or so until it goes away then build back up your training and your back to where you started. do not listen to anything that person just told you. My brother has had 3 stress fractures every single year that he has been running and he always starts back to soon and causes another one. would you like to ruin your whole running career or take off a couple weeks? haha magic mans post before this deleted?

Did this ever get resolved? The suspense is killing me.

    Edit: Woops, too late.

Good luck with that. You can still have a successful season.

Aww, im sorry to hear that. It's good that you're taking some time off. It'll will heal safely, and when it does, you'll jump right back into running and be awesomly refreshed and rested! Good luck, and I hope you getter better soon.

i have to agree; i ran through mine during xc and track and it became really severe. i was too naive to even recognize the pain. at least you dont have to wear like a hard cast like i did haha

i know your committed to your running so you will cross train through your injury so, even though it sucks now, you wont lose much fitness! i took 2 weeks off with just biking then the third week i alternated days biking and running easy for like 2 miles to ease back in and when i really started training again i was even better than before!

i remember sub5 did something similar through an injury and she came back and PRed. so try not to get discouraged Very Happy
