well obviously she will run faster then 2.50 800.. That makes me really angry watching that. haha
I can't believe its her first year of running, i'm sure her parents have made her run before.

she must be just really naturally good. because doing only 2.5 miles a day on average isn't like amazing training or anything and after this being only her first year.
and yeah, i'm sure she'll get faster than 2:50 on the 800

It's Indoor State. Usually there isn't an age limit.
& yea that's pretty fast for a 10 year old.
I know a girl who's now 12 that run a 5:33 mile and a 11:50 2-mile. She's crazy to watch because she's just a little dinky thing chasing the big high school girls around the track. At an indoor meet recently, she was able to lap everybody but the xc d4 state champion. It was kinda cool.

is it terrible that i'm jealous of a 10 year old?
it's scary how much natural talent she has, and i don't think she's going to burn out either.
her dad isn't gabe jennings- there is an interview of him on flotrack too.
just curious, did you see this on dyestat?

As soon as I saw this thread I knew it was a girl. Obviously she's grown a lot more than a male at this stage. It also isn't that uncommon for a female runner to make an immediate impact because of natural talent, much more than males in my experience. If I had to make a correlation I would say this would be the same as an 8th grade male winning that state's title.
As far as burnout is concerned, she will definitely burn out at this rate. I don't think it's possible to train for high school races for 8 straight years, run for 4 years in college, and then expect a long and successful career. If she keeps up training for high school state meets from this point on, she will burnot well before she graduates high school, guaranteed.

usually i'd agree that she'd burn out, but her father seems to really be trying to keep that from happening. he makes the runs fun, she has a very low mileage, and she does one workout a week. she's not training at a state-meet level, she's training at the same level as most middle schoolers.

If she only runs 2 1/2 miles a day and only does repeats every other week she won't burn out.

Hasay won't last. Look at the times she ran @ Foot Locker when she was a Frosh then when she was a senior.Pinthin wrote:Hassay ran really fast times as a 12 year old (okaay I read the comment on that link). If thats true then maybe she wont burn out.

Ignorance at its finest. In cross country, times don't matter... place does. Two completely different races, two completely different strategies, and two completely different days (in terms of weather, water on the course, etc).
And this girl will not "burn out" if she trains right and keeps it fun. Defar, Dibaba, Adere, Tulu, Kiplagat etc. were all running this much and more as children. Mary Decker, Deena Drossin, and more were all age group phenoms. Somehow I get the feeling some people want her to burn out (or dismiss her talent as "a burn out case")... she is indeed very talented and I wish her the best in the future (having some online exposure certainly might motivate her!).

The Corrector??
But anyways I agree cross country times very so much between course to course and type of weather. And like I said if Gabriella Jennings is only running 2 1/2 miles a day she probably won't burn out.
