so i was wondering of any of you guys are captains, or what the requirements are for your team.

the captains on my team usually end up being seniors, and for the last couple of years all of the seniors have been captains. this works out okay, except that some years we have way more captains than we need (in cross country this year we had 5 girl captains for a 12-person team).
next year though, there's only going to be one senior girl, which means that i'll probably get to be captain as a junior too Very Happy

i'm just sort of worried that the seniors this year think that i'm campaigning for captain for this years winter and spring track, because i've done things like make cupcakes for the freshmen's birthdays and give running advice/spout off my intense running knowledge. but i'm not trying to usurp them or anything, i'm just way more into running and the team, and i don't want them to get upset/think that i am.

    Our captains are seniors

I won't be a captain next year, but I will have to act like one for xc and organize the bake sale, bring Betsy to all the meets, try to actually get my team to act serious, and plan pasta parties because the girls who will be captains won't do shit.

And the best part is, acting like a captain but not actually being one will make my teammates resent me even more than they already do!! So much fun!! I can't wait for next year!! Rolling Eyes

for track all of our captains are seniors. for xc, they usually have one or two senior captains and a junior captain. pretty much the best runners get to be captains. i hope that i'll be an xc captain next year, but they have a lot of seniors so idk. i'm surprised they haven't told us by now.

i think i might have just crossed a line and gotten the captains pissed at me, since i sent everyone on the team an email with a link to watch FL tomorrow. i told a bunch of people about it at practice, and they seemed really interested, but sending the email was a captain-y thing to do. oops.

my team doesn't do the deserving thing, but that's okay because my captains are really sweet and good at the whole team bonding thing.

On our team we had 2 captains, one who was the best runner, and the other one who was a jokester and kept us all loose. One of them is a 5th year (Pharmecy) and the other is in his 4th year, Pharmacy as well, but both are only in their 3rd year of eligibility (we get 5 years up here in the CIS)

Basically who ever is fastest and has experience. In my school the coach picks the captain. I will be a 3 sport captain next year because I am the fastest xc runner (2 captains), the fastest nonsenior in swimming (3 captains), and the fastest distance track runner and last year 3 out of 4 captains were distance runners.

our captain is just whoever is the fastest. its funny cause this year our fastest guy is pretty shy and anti social, so when he needs to get the team together for a talk and stuff he makes the girl captain do it.

Our captains must be non-freshmen, work-out in the off-season, keeps the team in line, hleps the coach out with anything extra that he needs. They must also turn in a letter to our coach stating what they plan to bring to the team. At the end of the season, the team gets to see the letter turned in and they vote as to whether the captains did their job and deserve their captain pin.

I was an exception to the captains having to be a non-freshmen though last year. Our coach says no freshmen because he believes that you cannot lead, where you have not been. Well, I was team manager for 4 years so I knew just as much, if not more, than the other captains. So, I ended up being his 1st ever freshman captain. I loved it! I was Team Captain of the hurdles & relays. Heck, I taught all of the hurdlers that we have how to hurdle! Our Senior hurdler and captain learned from me her freshman year when I was in 6th grade. Smile
This next xc season our coach is picking captains differently because we had 4 girls captains for a 11 person team... He said he's picking me & then the team will select the other one.

I was chosen as a captain for next year.

Pretty much our requirements for a captain include:
--Having run on the team for more than two years
    --Being a "good" runner
    --Showing good leadership qualities

--Actually the members of the team voted on the captains for next year...

(but for the record i would def. be captain since i'm by far the most knowledgeable and into running, i'm the #1, and i'm the most dedicated- i go to the weight room after practice every day and ran every day over the summer, while the rest of the team doesn't do anything. not to brag or anything.)
    No they don't understand :/

and if your captains are upset about that, then they are pretty unreasonable, just saying

I was one of the team captains this year. It all comes down to attitude and being a good runner to be a captain at my school. It's pretty hard for non-seniors to be captains unless they are exceptionally good.
