If you want to lose weight, you need a calorie restrictive diet. NO SUGARS AT ALL! I usually eat pasta, Sun chips and milk everyday. When practice comes along, do your run, but work on core, strides and weightlifting. I too wanted to lose about 4-5 pounds since I was kinda of big on my team. (5'8 134).
Your strides must be very fast sprints, I do horseshoes (walk, jog, sprint). I do this 6-8 times depending on my meet schedule.
Core is also important. I can give you a million types of core workouts but if you really want some good ones just pm me.
As for weightlifting, I believe this the most important because it help define and tone the body. If you can see yourself easily toned after a good workout, you are most definitely not overweight. There are also a million types of lifting that can be done so just pm if you want a schedule. Its also important you work different muscles on different day. Weight lift after your hard days as this will speed up the fat loss. When dinner is near try not to stuff yourself to death but try to eat moderately.
I'm not sure if it was the strides that helped me lose weight but I would still do it, it will benefit you. Core work helps stabilize the body during races and shows definition of your abs. But if there is anything I want you to take from this long post is "Weight Lifted = Weight Loss". Sorry about the long post I just like talking about supplementary training.
