Yep, government control will kill any country. But you could also say the same about the republicans, taking away civil liberties and driving the country further away from the secular state it was 'intended' to be.

How do Republicans take away civil liberties? Democrates are the ones that take away stuff by making the governement do everything instead of its people.

Anti abortion, putting gays in jail (like bible belt states did until 2003, and only stopped when the supreme court told them not to! unbelievable!), trying to ban gay marriage, just basic rights like that. The fact that people as high up at state governors say 'freedom requires religion', you know what their agenda is. If it has to be one or the other, I'd take rights over a sound economy. Although a good economy is very important. Over here our liberal and conservative parties both favour civil liberties, so I strongly support our conservative government. But in the US, where they seem to be at stake every election, I'd take the bad economy any day.

Not to mention the war. It's kind of silly, saying that democrats want to run your life for you, and the republicans want to leave you alone. Overall, they both take just as much money from you (war republicans favour low taxes, but also huge deficits and inflation), only the democrats direct it back to the population, and the republicans direct it to fight a war.
