I started last December after I did decent(23:55) in a 5K I randomly signed up for. Then I started taking running seriously, starting as thing I thought that was odd to now becoming a part of my everyday life.

What age did you start running, were you good, why etc.

Re: When did you start?
I helped out on the track team in sixth grade, and I figured I was pretty good at distance seeing how I could run around the track twice and all.
In seventh I did xc, and I was one of the slowest on the team. Then I did Indoor that year and ran like 6:30 for the mile. In outdoor I ran 5:54.
That summer I ran like 20 mpw, and some how became the best runner on xc, and one of the best in the area. Ran 8:59 for 1.5 miles (All the courses were fucking nutbusters). I also won a big invite which was pretty cool.
Over the winter I ran 30 mpw for a couple weeks then ran like 20mpw for the rest of the winter.
Ran 5:04 in outdoor last year.
Now I'm a frosh on xc, and ran a horrible race last week because I'd only done one session of any type of fast running.
THE END

Re: When did you start?
Gah, I should just copy and paste my whole story from another thread, but I just don't feel like looking.
My sophomore year in high school I had lymes disease, which showed up on tests as mono, and the doctors said I couldn't do any of my other sports. So then I just ran with my friends for 6 weeks, but didn't do any races or anything.
During that summer I ran on and off about 4-5 days a week because one of the runners said he could beat me and I didn't think he could. When we got to race in the 5k, I ran a 19:33 and kicked his butt (he hadn't run in about 1.5 months).
Then that winter I did an 8k european-style cross country race off of 2 weeks of running, and I ran 45 minutes (which was good for about 200th place out of 900.).
Then I did track that year and trained distance the whole time. I don't know what kind of shape I was in because I never ran a race other than the hurdles and triple jump. I ran 15.9 for 110 hurdles and 44 something for 300 hurdles. I also tripled like 37 feet. Yay me. Blah blah blah I trained that summer like usual.
My first cross country season was my senior year. My first race I ran 17:25 for 3 miles, and I ended up running 16:17 for 3 miles later in the season and 10:33 for 3200 on a time trial.
So long story short, first ever running = sophomore year with lyme.
first season of running was junior year track.
first xc season was senior year.

Last year.
I didn't take it serious til track season when I never ran over 5 minutes in the mile and I thought I could be pretty good if I tried.

Re: When did you start?
8th grade I had nothing to do after school one day, so I went to the track meeting and joined the team.
That's the condensed version of the story; I don't feel like typing the whole thing.

Re: When did you start?
my brother was a football player. i broke his arm. he wasnt good anymore after he was better. so his senior year he went out for xc for fun and his best time was 20 flat. his first time was like 23 and that was off of training for 8 weeks (im definitely not talent.)
i was a good football player but february of 07 i realized how short i was. in an effort to seem taller, i bought shox (which at the time i was in 6th grade so i thought they were high tech running shoes: BAHAHAHA) i was like hey lets start a running team. i considered myself decent cause i ran a 7.34 mile last fall. i trained all february and ran a 7.04 mile come spring so i did a huge race called the fargo marathon and ran 27 minutes with my dad. that summer i trained about 3 miles a week haha. running took a back seat to baseball. so in july, 2 days before the cc season started i ran a 25 flat 5k which was considered great by me, my family, and a coach. the coach talked me out of doing football and i tried cc. i went from a 15 minute 2 mile to a 12.30 and dedicated myself to running. i stopped running that winter for some reason and came back to track suckishly with a 7.04 first mile time trial to a 6.34 and finally down to 5.37 after injuries.
in summer i trained seriously and cut down to an amazing at the time 5.15 and now my main goal is a 11 2 mile.
i ran my pr last week or two.

Re: When did you start?
I started my junior year because a friend of mine got me into doing it. I was interested in soccer because I used to play, but I wasn't in the right shape to make the team. I wasn't good by any stretch of the imagination. I think my first race was a 4k and I ran like 22 minutes.

Re: When did you start?
i started xc during my sophomore year, and did track in the spring.
now im starting my junior year lol.
the reason i joined xc was because my hockey league only went up to 15 year olds (so i was to old), and my high school didnt have a hockey team, so i decided to go with running since the only other team i could make was baseball (and i wouldn't of gotten much playing time).

Re: When did you start?
i started when i was twelve (7th grade). mainly because my best friend convinced me to and she was the top runner. i was attempting most sports at this time and i jut went with it. another reason was because it needed no coordination, all you had to do was run, at first it seemed easy enough.

I started running last year because I felt lazy doing just kung fu. Another reason was that marathon training was supposed to be a blast compared to most other sports, and you got to hang with your friends for an hour.

Re: When did you start?
I started in 6th grade. I did xc and track (1600 and 800). I was not good... although part of this could be that I never ran more than 3 miles together... and I almost never did even that because in practice we only ran 2 miles. And we never did a single workout. we ran the same amount every day.
Freshman year in HS I was a lot better... my pr was 21:10 and I made varsity... last year (soph) I was still on varsity: pr 20:35. THis year so far on varsity.... no pr yet... but it's pretty early in the season. I'm hoping to get sub-20.

Re: When did you start?
started in 7th grade. ran a 14:16 2 mile, brought it down to 13:12 that year. ran 6:05 mile in track. decided to quit sucking so i ran over the summer, atleast 5 miles a day, most of it hard. ran a 11:39 2 mile my 8th grade year and a 5:15 mile in track.
