    He starts "off his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.

    He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

    At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

    For dinner, Phelps really loads up on the carbs - what he needs to give him plenty of energy for his five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen - with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza.

    He washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks."

    8,000-10,000 a day. Contrast that with Chelsie Memmel of gymnastics, who eats a piece of fruit for dinner. No wonder they all got hurt.

    oh yea I heard about this somewhere else too. I think it's pretty CrAzY! Jeesh! Breakfast is something like 4,000 calories along with lunch being another 4,000 calories. I don't think I'd make it through breakfast let alone lunch. Shocked lol

    I think the "energy drinks" are more like protein shakes and such. And a bit of caffine often helps performance, and you don't get as dehydrated swimming as running (and if you do you can just drink up!)

    Yes, nothing hydrates me quite like chlorine and other assorted chemicals.....but I wonder how all the other swimmers feel. Lochte is probably doing at least 90% of Phelp's training volume, and he might actually be doing the same workouts. He's probably saying "I eat a lot too!" and everyone is telling him "Shut up, Lochte! You're blocking our view of the Boy Wonder."

    My coach was talking about this yesterday. Now I dont feel that bad cause my Breakfast is over 1000 calories.(not every day but most over the sumer)

    10000 calories and 4% body fat. I eat whole lot less than that and definitely ain't 4% body fat.

    anyone know how much Dean Karnazes eats everyday?

    I know he said on one of his 48 hour runs he ate 28,000 calories

    I bet he eats similar to what Phelps eats everyday in terms of calories, though 10 times healthier
