We do the same thing every year.
30 minute parent/coach/athlete meeting where they hand out papers and shit, then 800m warm up, stretch, mile Time trial, then run the course.

Yeah, my coach is pretty proud of being the first to practice in WA.
I could change that
haha.
we usually do 3 miles, at what ever pace. Buut noobs like to race it =/
well I meant they just start out way to fast and end up walking.. I dunno its suppose to be an easy run is what I mean.
Most of my runs are like "races" too because me and my friend/running partner get really competitive..haha

Same here. I want to go undefeated in practice this year. This will be hard once we start doing speed work.

Re: First day of practice.
I dont like getting so competitive but its hard... lol we tell each other that when we do intervals like "lets make this one a little slower.." but then (usually her) starts speeding up and I dont want to look bad. I have too much pride..haha yeah.
but then sometimes on our easy runs we dance .. so we make up for it.

Re: First day of practice.
I wasn't justifying the breaks, I was correcting your notion that you can't peak too soon doing easy runs.RawBeginner wrote:FinishingKick wrote:How are you so sure that's not why they all PRed at state?Through_the_Pain wrote:RawBeginner wrote:Through_the_Pain wrote:Today was my first practice
we did:
1 mile warm up
2 mile at easy pace
Break
1.5 miles at easy pace
Break
.75 at easy pace
Break
1 mile cool down
Its reaslly easy but he seems to know wat hes doing since he got everyone to pr at states. He knows how the whole peaking thing works.
breaks during easy runs = fail. and no amount of easy running will make you peak too soon.
Thats what this kid on my team was saying. We try to sneak in extra miles though
And RB, easy running can make you peak too soon if you don't do it right. For instance, if I ran 30 minutes every day starting tomorrow and no variables (conditions, pace etc.) changed, I would start to lose fitness after a while, meaning I peaked too soon. An extreme scenario perhaps, but it can happen.
the only way the breaks can be justified is if the team didn't run over the summer and can't handle a continuous 7 miler. if they can handle a 7 mile run, then by all means take a 7 miler and don't stop.

Re: First day of practice.
mmm we did these triangle things that were 400 meters
you go easy one section then stop at the corner and do pushup planks
then go medium and do mountain climbers
then go race pace and do wall pushes.
we did this for 40 minutes i didn't count my laps--i shoulda though.
it was really hard though last time we did this it wasn't too bad but idk it felt really tough.
