So, I've finally made it up to 50 miles per week and am planning to do that for the next 2 weeks as well... but then XC is going to start and I'll probably only be doing 35-40 mpw...do you think that sudden drop in mileage is going to be bad?

That isn't a sudden mileage drop, it is shifting the focus of your training. That is why we do periodization, so we can train at different mileages and intensities to work all our bodies systems. Sure, your half marathon time won't be as good, but your 5k time will be much better.
