    Dynamic/Static Stretching Empty Dynamic/Static Stretching

Post by Trackaholic Sun Jul 06, 2008 4:17 pm

One of the most important things I learned at XC camp that I did not know before was that BEFORE a run the only type of stretching that should be done is dynamic stretching. (Involves movement)

AFTER a run static stretching (no movement) is best, but mixing it with dynamic stretching as well cannot hurt.

Dynamic stretching has one setback, it looks plain ridiculous at times. However, it makes you feel SO much better during races and runs. But a few of them look ridiculous...

Our girls track team did a lot of stuff like that.

We just did some stretching and form drills then we go.

Our practice is about an hour to about an hour and a half

The girls is about 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours...

You're still better than me. I rarely stretch. I think I'll try to get into a habit of some light dynamic stuff before runs and then more regular static stuff afterwards. Whatever must be done...

Our track team (okay, well, our coach) is stupid:
we do an 800m warm up
    dynamic stretching
    and then static stretching

I always thought this was wrong. Suspect

Yeah, that's pretty standard for HS track. You do have a decent warmup though, so it's not too bad.

I love doing dynamic stretching, but I usually do it after a slow jog and no-movement stretching.

Ryan Hall does dynamic stretching before races and workouts and then static and dynamic after. Just in case anyone was wondering.

They run an 800m warmup. Not an 800m race. So lightly run it. Razz
