Not quite sure where this would go, so sorry if this is in the wrong discussion area.

but i was wondering how people's times have progressed throughout the years, as you may have gotten more mature, or put in the miles.

    for me
    1600
    10th-5:30-no summer/winter running
    11th-4:57, started taking running seriously
12th-4:37 put in a lot of time, and miles to get there

    5k
10th-18:44, didn't really take cross country seriously
11th-17:14, started running a month before cc started, but thats the extent of it
12th-16:44, put in about 500 miles over the summer and worked my ass off everyday

what about you guys? how have you improved over the years?

    400m: 62.7
    800m: 2:41 ish

    8th grade-

    800m: 2:17.9
    1500m: 5:06
    3000m: 10:55
    5K: 20:15 i think

    Freshman Year (to date)

    800m: 2:14.56
    1500m: 4:37
    1600m: 4:59

JK, it's a cool thread idea.

I haven't been running very long, but I'll post mine anyway.

    1600
    8th - 5:52 - 12 mpw, all speedwork Smile
9th - 5:32 - put in what I thought was a good base (20ish mpw), but then had a terrible coach

    5k
9th - 19:48 - Put in a base of like, I don't know, 15 mpw? Got up to about 25 during the season.

This is going to be my first year of serious training. I finally discovered the level of commitment running requires. I'm hoping for some big improvements.

Hlwwcc, I'm curious, your 10th grade 5k time is quite a bit better than your 1600. Please explain. (Your 1600 improvement is fairly impressive, btw).

nice improvements; What makes me look like a sprinter, just curious? I'm not a sprinter, trust me I just used to run the shorter distances. Now I'm a real runner for sure.

    Well your 400 seems sick.
In 7th grade 62!!! I ran a 1:08 this year en route to my 2.26 but jeez that seems fast.
Youre mile however is definetly very impressive Smile

    Your sprint times are better.

    8th Grade:
    400m: 67
    800m: 2:32
    1600m: 5:53

    9th Grade:
    400m: 59
    800m: 2:16
    1600m: 4:52
    3200m: 11:10

I never had a chance to get the 800 and 2 mile times down when I was in my peak this year. The 3200m time is actually from the middle of indoor when my mile was 5:08.

I don't think my tenth grade mile and 5k are that dissimilar. running an 18:40 is like 6 minute pace, i'd probably go out a little faster than six minutes to, so a 6:00 Cross country mile and a 5:30 track mile are pretty close.

and thank you, i really wanted to hit around 4:30-4:34 but i guess i can settle with a 4:37.

    mile time

7th-approx 7:30(fat and slow, but ran everything in practice, was not lazy)
8th: 5:40- very strict routine, lost weight, strict diet. but low mileage
9th: - 5:09-put in a year of training behind me, but worked to hard in the winter so i was kinda burnout throughout the season and prob could have worked harder

    COOL

8th grade- 8:30ish gym class mile off of 0 mpw

9th grade- 9:04 gym class mile, I started running Indoor track

Indoor Track 5-10 mpw, I was on the sprint team
    200m-30ish 4x200m split on our B team
55m-8.5 (I know, I only ran it once, and did terribly)
600m-started at 2:14 got down to 2:00 XD

Outdoor Track, still sprint team so 5-10 mpw
100m- 14.6 (Once again, I only ran it once, and I hadn't ever used blocks
    200m- 29.4 at Shorelines (I KNOW, BEAST)
    400m- 65.0 I ran this a few times
I also LJ and Hurdled, but can't remember any official results, I think I was in the 14-15 ft area for LJ, and in the 20s for the 110 HH, which I ran once.

9th-10th grade summer, I ran about 300 miles in 13 weeks, so that comes to... ~23 mpw average

    Cross Country ~20 mpw
6:12 mile Time Trial the first day of practice
3rd or 4th JV runner most of the year, I got into the 21s at a few meets

Indoor Track, I dropped the mileage down to 10-15 mpw, because I ran distance
300m- 45, just ran it once to see if I could beat one of my friends
600m- 1:46 or so, I only ran it once, but I was happy I wasted my old time easily
    800m- 2:35 on a 4x800m split, the one time I ran it
    1000m- 3:20, I hated this race Sad
1600m- I had run a 5:52 gym class mile earlier that year, and got into the 5:40s
3200m- I didn't like it the one time I ran it, and got 13:00 or so

    Outdoor Track ~10 mpw
    800m- 2:29 4x800m split at Shorelines
1600m- 5:19 at Shorelines (this was probably by best Conference meet ever)

10th-11th grade summer, I ran like 500 miles in 12 weeks (~42 mpw average) but I guess I didn't really get it, because I ran them all at 9:30 to 10:00 pace... I figure I didn't want to be uncomfortable running, right? Meh, it didn't work so great

    Cross Country ~20 mpw
5:58 mile the first day of practice
7th Varsity most meets, ended up not running at States
    SO FROWNY FACE

Indoor Track I scaled it back to ~10 mpw
    800m- 2:29 split
1000m- 3:19 (Once again, hated the race)
1600m- 5:27 at Shorelines, I never really ran a good race during Indoor
    3200m- 12:04 I actually ran this a few times

    Outdoor Track, probably 8-10 mpw
400m- 61ish in the rain one meet, to officially set a new PR
800m- 2:25 at Shorelines in a relay split
    1600m- 5:22, never got a PR Sad

    THAT WAS SO DAMNED DEPRESSING

    800m- 2:35 on a 4x800m split, the one time I ran it
    1000m- 3:20, I hated this race Sad
1600m- I had run a 5:52 gym class mile earlier that year, and got into the 5:40s
3200m- I didn't like it the one time I ran it, and got 13:00 or so

    Outdoor Track ~10 mpw
    800m- 2:29 4x800m split at Shorelines
1600m- 5:19 at Shorelines (this was probably by best Conference meet ever)

10th-11th grade summer, I ran like 500 miles in 12 weeks (~42 mpw average) but I guess I didn't really get it, because I ran them all at 9:30 to 10:00 pace... I figure I didn't want to be uncomfortable running, right? Meh, it didn't work so great

    Cross Country ~20 mpw
5:58 mile the first day of practice
7th Varsity most meets, ended up not running at States
    SO FROWNY FACE

Indoor Track I scaled it back to ~10 mpw
    800m- 2:29 split
1000m- 3:19 (Once again, hated the race)
1600m- 5:27 at Shorelines, I never really ran a good race during Indoor
    3200m- 12:04 I actually ran this a few times

    Outdoor Track, probably 8-10 mpw
400m- 61ish in the rain one meet, to officially set a new PR
800m- 2:25 at Shorelines in a relay split
    1600m- 5:22, never got a PR Sad

    THAT WAS SO DAMNED DEPRESSING
I remember when you made the thread about your messed up base on RW. What are you doing now?

Ya, I think I'm training much smarter this summer. I'm doing 30 mpw or so right now, and about half of it is at 7:30 pace, then I have a long run at around 8:00 pace, a tempo run at around 6:45 pace, and then about 30% of my week is recovery mileage where I run easy as I want.

So I think that is going much better.

That sounds good. I've been doing a bunch of easy runs from 7:51 to 6:56 pace. We start formal base soon.
