So I do this intense summer league and I'm training for sprints at practice. (mid distance rest of the week/ into XC) There's not too many girls my age that run though, so I'm stuck with people who are like 10-20 sec slower per 400 than me. It's really hard because they always want to take extra long breaks and we have never finished a workout this whole year. They're always complaining that they want to go home or just walk instead of running.T hey're just not dedicated, and I feel like I'm trying so hard but not benefiting. The next age group is like 17-19 year old guys who woule beat me probably by like 30 seconds. The few girls my age, do long distance. If I did long distance, I would be a beginner and probably be with younger/less experienced kids who don't want to work as hard also. Should I jump over to long distance to train for the 800 now, or focus on my main events? Also, I want to talk the the coach to see if she has any solutions, but she's tough and I don't know her that well. I'm just kind of in a rant/sad mood. Sorry. Any advice would be awesome!

Re: Need Advice
What are you're plans for XC? If you focused on longer distances during the summer with longer training runs then you would be better off for XC. But if you won't be working either way then do what you would want first. And how would the meets change? if you enjoy the shorter distances stick with that, you will probably be able to move up in the longer distances and do well as well.

Re: Need Advice
Thanks, PCNQ! This will be my first year of XC so I don't have too many standards. I'm more of a natural athlete, so I find sprinting easy and fun, both it's really hard to improve in. I wanted to concentrate on the 400 now, and the 800 later in the summer. I'm going to try and make the best out of practice, even if that means finishing the workout by myself. It sounds wierd, but practice is pointless because the kids clearly don't want to run. ://

If it was happening to you, I'm sure you wouldn't think that way.

Re: Need Advice
Good news ! ! There was a few other sprinting girls tonight that were a bit older, && the coach moved me up. I actually kept up too. It was awesome.
I decided that I'm going to stick with sprinting but slowly train for the 800 and do XC to build some endurance.

OMG I wrote three paragraphs on what I would do and my stupid computer messed it up and it didn't post. Heres a summary Train on your own get good join XC or keep training for the 400. Seriously, I wrote out 2-3 paragraphs.
