    State Rankings Empty State Rankings

Post by FinishingKick Thu May 22, 2008 10:18 pm

The Cali thread gave me an idea. What if we made a list of best states for running, not just decided on the very best.

The first schools to be considered would probably be California, New York, Texas, Oregon, and Florida.

That would make it as follows:

    1. California
    2. New York
    3. Texas
    4. Florida
    5. Oregon
    6. Pennsylvania

Obviously some editing to be done, as well as states to be added. I think the next class would include Ohio, Illinois, and several more eastern states.

And Oregon might be slightly high up.

    2 Simi West CA 148
    Hilton NY 178

    3 Spokane WA 162
    Carroll TX

    4 Carmichael CA 169
    Colts NJ 200

    5 Mead WA 186
    Yankton SD 202

6 Clifton Park NY MY SCHOOL! clap
    Newport CA 210

    7 Academy NM 190
    Westfield IN 210

    8 Potosi MO 191
    Greenbelt MD 243

    9 Hills CA 203
    Albuquerque NM 254

    10 Elmhurst IL 209
    Midlothian VA 255

    11 Carroll TX 249
    Sioux Falls SD 264

    12 The Woodlands TX 293
    Wilmington DE 268

    13 Los Alamos NM 315
    Phoenix AZ 272

    14 Midlothian VA 324
    Billings MT 291

    15 Cincinnati OH 325
    Fairbanks AK 303

    16 Willmar MN 347
    Concord CA 307

    17 Peninsula OH 370
    Hinsdale IL 307

    18 Danbury CT 395
    Santa Clarita CA 324

    19 Cheyenne WY 412
    City of Iowa IA 366

    20 Chapel Hill NC 482
    Tupelo MS 454

If we scored this on points (1st place = 20, 20th = 1), it would look like this:
    71 California
    54 New York
    37 Texas
    34 Washington
    34 New Mexico
    26 South Dakota
    20 Pennsylvania
    18 Virginia
    17 New Jersey
    15 Illinois
    14 Indiana
    13 Missouri
    13 Maryland
    10 Ohio
    9 Delaware
    8 Arizona
    7 Montana
    6 Alaska
    5 Minnesota
    3 Connecticut
    2 Wyoming
    2 Iowa
    1 North Carolina
    1 Mississippi

Obviously the shocker there is no Florida or Oregon. Now if we take out states that only scored with one school (which I believe is a more accurate representation), it would look something like this:
    71 California
    54 New York
    37 Texas
    34 Washington
    34 New Mexico
    26 South Dakota
    18 Virginia
    15 Illinois
    14 Indiana
    10 Ohio

It obviously shows Washington and New Mexico need to be in the mix. I'm not sold on South Dakota. It also shows that Oregon and Florida are overrated and solidifies New York as number two.
