    Height Questions Empty Height Questions

Post by PCNQtrack Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:25 am

Ok, i know you all have seen from my past pics that i'm not the tallest 15 year old around (5ft. 3) I recently went in to the doctor and got some tests done where they determined that my growth age is at the same place as a young 13 year old (within first 6 months)

my question is do you think that this effects my running at all? Like are the times I'm running now comparable with 13 year old times?

I should have asked my doctor...

nope ive read countless articles saying that it all equals out. just dont worry about it because boys tend to grow through sophomore in college. plus leg size doesnt matter. dont turn into one of those people who use excuses about others legs being longer because that wont affect performances.

Does it matter? Geb is around 5'3 as well I believe. You don't need to worry about such trivial things. Just run.

Yea exactly, don't worry about what you can't control. It will start slowing you down if you stress yourself out about it. Never make excuses for your ability and you'll get back on the sadle.

Being short means you have less weight to pull. It works both ways.

Like PTZ said, unless it's really extreme (dwarfism, giantism), height doesn't effect running performance. It all balances out. Taller people need to expend more energy to take one stride, because their legs are longer. Take a 5 ft pole and swing it over your head, then take a 10 ft pole and swing it over your head. The 5 ft pole was easier to move, because it's a smaller lever.

seems like the shorter girls are usually faster though =/

and shorter people have it easier up hill (taller have easier down hill) so it works out.

Well obviously, you can't just compare it like THAT. You can't just pull a random tall person off the street and a random short person off the street and have them race and see who wins, and if the tall person wins being tall is good or whatever. There are WAY more factors that come into play and you can't just use one example to say "Okay, height doesn't matter." (especially like using people on your team).

running might have had an effect on your height...when you do intense physical activity during your prime growing years it can stunt your growth...but no worries.
