-well, usually this isn't a problem b/c I always run with the same group... but sometimes we get a freshman or someone who decides to tag along who does this...: so we run in a park and some of the trails are really narrow...SINGLE FILE. and then said new person decides to double up with you. ummm. hello, there is no room for you on the trail next to me!!! go behind or in front, not next to!!

-middle school/junior high boys who feel the need to make obscene/sexual comments as we run by... seriously, how old are you? I doubt you even know what you just said!

-cars that honk as you run by and startle you so you trip/run into something/fall of the sidewalk etc.

-somebody already said this, but walk/sprinters in a race... I haven't encountered any in HS since I've sped up a bit, but in middle school they always beat me b/c I actually ran the whole way.

-Cars that run red lights and almost hit our group when we're in the crosswalk.... WITH THE WALK SIGNAL!!!! this happened to my group once... but don't worry, no one was hurt and we managed to flip the guy off before he got away agree

ok, that's enough for now... I'll try to think of more.

when guys can't handle being passed by girls during workouts

Story time: The other day at xc, we were doing hill sprints and there was one incoming freshman guy who is not that good. So me and this other girl (who's #1 on our team and amazingly fast) would beat him up the hill everytime. He was getting visibly pissed at us and it just made me mad because I felt like it was sort of sexist of him or just really immature not to be able to handle it.

i think it's pretty common. theres a video of chris derrick doing hard repeat 1200's with his team on flotrack, and there's a middle school meet going on in the inner lanes, so when one of the middle schoolers almost cuts him off he starts flipping out.

my answer is to go as far as you're comfortable doing. for me 50 mpw was the highest i did in singles, because 60 mpw in singles means going out for 10 mile runs and calling them "easy" runs which I would not be able to handle. so i'm at 60 now with 2 extra easy 5 milers in the PM.

Yeah, 50-60 miles per week sounds pretty good to start adding doubles. If possible, try to stick with singles as long as possible, but like what was already said, it's pretty hard for most high schoolers to run 10 miles every day as an easy day. And also, don't completely split up a run when you're doing doubles. For example, if you were planning on doing a 10 mile day in doubles, doing 7 miles for your first run and 3 miles for your second run is better than splitting it up 5 and 5.

i don't split like that. it's more like 8/5 one day and just 7 the next day for a 2-day total of 20. i don't run 3-4 mile runs because I don't believe in doing a run shorter than 30 minutes.

some of my pet peeves are when people keep trying to push the pace on easy runs when running as a group (which is the main reason i usually go on my easy runs alone), and when people lie about their times.

It's less than 9 miles a day, and a long run on the weekend would make it even less.....

well i dont do the same distance every day, and only do 4 or 5 on sunday. so my schedule(in singles) would have looked like 8 10 8 10 8 12 4. and like you i didn't split up my normal runs, I just added a PM 5 miler two days a week

When you don't run well, but people tell you that you did.
Also, if you tell them to stop saying that and they don't stop.
    It annoys me so much.
