    Protein Shakes Empty Protein Shakes

Post by Push Towards State Tue Jul 08, 2008 1:38 am

I heard this sophmore dude from another running site (dystat) who ran during the winter and drank protein shakes right after. He was able to lower his 5:02 mile down to 4:38. Would it be wise to drink them? Im wondering whether it has worked for anyone here on this fantastic forum which is better then Dystat and Letsrun combined.

(I was paid by running with scissors to say that) big grin

    Runners Trail rules

I used it during swim season a couple times but for a 9th grader to run a 5:02 and then run a 4:38 in his 10th grade year isn't that uncommon protein drink or not.
I didn't run track at all in my 9th grade year and ran the mile only half the season this year in 10th. So if I ran 5:06 in 9th grade it would have been the same drop and I didnt even run much over the winter i just swam.

So I think while protien drinks can help but that kid would have been just as good with out them.

Thats true but 4:38 is pretty good for a sophmore.

Are you serious? Protein drinks are a good recovery if you drink them right after your runs, and if he did that everyday over the winter, it probably gave him at least one second.

i doubt that they would improve your performance super dramatically. i've never used them, but i might if they really have some benefits i guess.

and that is a really good time for a sophomore.

I have a protein shake after every run. You aren't getting all of the benefits of your workout if you aren't taking the protein to rebuild muscles fast and efficiently imo.

I just add whey protein to milk and add nesquik to dilute the terrible taste of the protein powder. Works great.
