With the times I have at the age I'm at(turned 13 in May) will I be a great runner in HS? Also there is this 14 year old who runs like 17s. Can I make such a change to be that good?

Also any training tips would be helpful. I'm at about 25-30 miles a week as of now. Lately I have hit a plateau and have been running pretty much the same times. My last 6 races:
    21:48
    22:44(very hot)
    22:22
    22:20
    22:01

17s are decent, but it's nothing special. Performances in 7th grade don't really say that much about your potential. I know I was running about 8 minutes in the mile in 7th grade. I have a friend who was running 6:30 in it and now we run the same times.

I wouldn't rule out improving a lot when you get to highschool... I don't know what sort of workouts you are doing in middle school, but I probably did the same mileage... maybe a little less (closer to 25) but no workouts and I improved a lot. I went from sucking in middles school to just barely making varsity freshman year. Increasing mileage will help a lot...but I don't think you need to worry about that too much until the summer before 9th grade. I know a lot of people who worked really hard to be good in middle school and then got sick of running in HS... so don't worry about it too much now... just have fun.

If its any consolation. My freshman best was a 19:21, my soph was 17:16.
So its possible, but man, it all depends on genetics and whether you do your training right. those are two thing swe cant determine here.

dont give up hope though. its a possibility.

    Don't worry about it.
Seriously. It's just too much stress to think about shit like that. Relax and enjoy running and maybe you'll find that you do have what it takes.
