Re: Checkin in from the Trials
Well, I'm back from the Trials for a few days, since they are taking a rest.
I warn you, I have no idea what all you saw on TV so if you don't want to read what you may already know, stop now.
Obviously, Tyson Gay set a new world recrod. The gun went off, then he was done, he left everyone else behind. The crowd was excited, but I think they all kind of expected something like that.
Adam Goucher dropped out of the 5k. He had been leading for a bit, and up near the front, pushing the pace. Maybe thats what took it out of him but he stopped with 800m to go, I wish he would have just finished it. Tegenkamp started making a move with about 1600 to go, he looked strong, there was no way he wasn't going to win. Lagat did his typical hang in the back, towards the middle he begin to take over, then took control at the end.
Shalane and Kara both came back from the 10k to win their heats of the 5k. The one girl who dropped out in Kara's heat appeared to be limping. Shalane led most of the way, but she wasn't pushing it a ton at the end. Nicole Blood didn't look good from the beginning. Lauren Fleshman ran alongside Shalane most of the way.
Kara didn't looko to good in the beginning of her heat. She moved up later on, this won the sprint just barely from Rhines, she didn't come up to her until the last lap. I lost my bet with my mom, with 1 lap to go I said Kara would get second and not be able to pass Rhines, obviously I was wrong.
The 800m men's was a suprise.I really wanted Robinson, but Christian edged him out, they both fell right when they finished. Symmons stayed in the back, got boxed in around 300m, then had to squeeze by on the inside that sneak to the outside of the pack to make his move. Wheating went with about 100m to go.
There was a girl sitting behind in that thought it unfair that they let all the girls who tripped in the earlier round of the 800m advance, but I think its fair. Nobody knows who fell the hardest wand hurt themselves the most. Besides, there have been plenty of come from behind performances, no one really knows what could have happened. Besides, they would have been weeded out in the final. Teter, who fell in the earlier round, got fourth. I think, but don't quote me on it, she may go to the Olympics anyways because the third place girl doesn't have the A standard.
Jeremy Wariner slowed down at the end again of the 400 semi, once he knew he had it, I hope he comes out with an amazing performance, since he's been saving himself so far. At about 360m or so, he looks around and slows.
I had to sit by some guys that smelled like beer last night. It's really crowded. They knew nothing about track, neither did the girls in front of me.
They have a lot of venues going on, so far I've collected several posters, including Webb, K. Goucher, and Webb again. I went and heard several distance legends speak. They signed a poster of themselves. They included Don Bowden, Jim Grelle, Bob Schul, Wes Santee and Jim Beatty. Mainly, they told about their competitive years, their coaches and some workouts. There was also a group run I went on, A 10th place Olympic marathoner was there, I don't remember her name. After we ran, the people around me running and I got seperated from the group and lost, listened to Margarert Johnson Bailes talk, it was a Q&A session. I also went to a coaches talk, including Oregon's track coach.
I didn't slap any other people's hands. Yes P2, I already admitted I was lame, but so were the 20 or so other people who lined up to congratulate and slap their hands as they passed. At least I washed it with no second thought. I just found it exciting because the crowd was able to sway them to finsih their victory lap.But whatever, I agree I'm lame.
I went running on Pre's trails and got lost, majorly. About 2-3 hrs lost. I wandered all through Eugene, my mom had filed a missing person's report. Needless to say, when I found my way back, I was exhausted.
It's cool because you can be walking around and see Trials athletes around town. I ate at Track Town Pizza, its supposed to be a favorite of Ritz, however I didn't see him. I'm bummed though because Ryan Hall is speaking tomorrow and I won't be in town.

Wait, he didn't?
In the finals for the 100m he ran 9.68. Isn't the world record 9.72. I know in an earlie rheat he got the American record, but in the later heat, doesn't that time get him to world?

Oh, I just noticed, they discounted the world record because of winds.

Oops, just saw you're post. Yes, actually I did watch. maybe I'm ignorant or oblivious, but there was a lot going on, and I don't believe they said something about the winds right away.

Re: Checkin in from the Trials
But it is still considered the fastest time (100m) run under any circumstances.

Re: Checkin in from the Trials
Nope. Not that I heard at least, I remember hearing new world record, and everyone was cheering.
Sorry, I didn't mean to argue, or be ignorant. I kind of wondered if the winds did anything. I couldn't feel them in the stands, but I saw flags flying on the track.

there's a gauge on the feild that tells you how fast the wind is going.5280ft wrote:Nope. Not that I heard at least, I remember hearing new world record, and everyone was cheering.

Really? Wow, I feel stupid. I never noticed that. I'll look for it when I go back.
I promise I was there though, although maybe not fully if I couldn't even figure out his time wasn't counted as a WR
