No, I hath been betrayed Empty No, I hath been betrayed

Post by Trackaholic Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:12 pm

My own father has become one of those people who think running is dangerous and bad for you.
He printed out and made me read this bullshit baised article on runners dying in marathons and stuff. All those people were shown too have enlarged hearts and crap like that anyway, or they were dehyrdrated or something really stupid on their part, nothing to do with running per se.

I swear it disgusts me, every time somebody dies running (ryan shay salute ) all the coach potatoes all over the world jump up and are like "SEE! Excercise can be bad for you!"

Its a shameless exploitation so that they can feel good about their own laziness and/or tendency to shove to much junk down their pie hole.

Sorry, I just needed to rant.

My Bio teacher said that running would lead to arthritis and a bunch of crap, then I went and found 5 studies all concluding that running has no averse effects, (except a negligible increase in fractures) and that it greatly lowers rates of arthrits, heart disease, diabides (sp?) cancer and overall mortality. A quick pubmed search should find you the same studies.

I'm guessing you did something like the guy in your avatar after he told you.

I read an article online by some doctor that said competitive sports were too hard on the body, and that people should just exercise moderately. Maybe it was true, but what kind of person wants to do that? And running is still a lot better than not running at all.

Yeah, but these people fail to realize that just as many people get hurt walking down the street or driving in a car or eating bad food and getting sick so there is danger in every part of life

We've only got one life. Anyone who decides to sit on their couch all day fearing that the end will only come sooner if they decide to do something with their life is pathetic.
It's like getting sentenced 4 years on deathrow, and begging for five.

It's really pretty funny that people single out running as a dangerous sport. I can name 50 other common activities that are much more dangerous than running.
