hey, do you guys know how long it takes to adjust to running in higher altitudes? Im used to running at sea level, and I just finished a 3mile run (im in utah now, and its like 4700 ft according to wiki) and I felt like I was dying during the whole run. Also, Should I be running less (I was doing around 38 mpw previously) and build up to adjust to the altitude better, or continue increasing my mileage as if I was in hk?

I would say keep the milage but go slower until you get back to what you were going at, and then you'll know you've gotten faster.

It is going to take awhile to get adjusted to alltitude. Your body is used to more oxygen intake and obviously there is less air that high up. I don't know about cutting miles, maybe thinking about going slower, there is no need to cut your miles, just make your runs a little easier.

He's going to be there for two months, is that long enough?sebsam wrote:All the pros train at sea level and live at altitude usually (unless they do some hill runs in the mountains)
Just running in altitude won't benefit you much unless you stay there for a long period of time like all the pros
You could try lowering your mileage but going faster, so you don't sacrifice speed. If you're training for xc though you could keep the same mileage but just try to get used to it over time.. running really slow in altitude doesn't really help much
