    sickk.. Empty sickk..

Post by xotrackkgirl Sun Jan 25, 2009 2:18 pm

I have a cold or something.
I'm congested with a bad cough.
I did a basketball game 2 days ago and got the "ice in the throat feeling."
I havent ran much since I got this cold (2 weeks ago)
but I think I should kick in my training for track.

Should I run even though I'm sick?

Yes. I saw an article online discussing a recent study that showed running while sick didn't lengthen the duration or increase the severity of a cold. Some people reported feeling better quicker because of running.

Go for a run and see how it is. However, don't over extend yourself. If you feel like you're gonna collapse, then call it quits.

When I have colds I usually go for runs and they go away.

    Running jumpstarts your immune system.

What about racing? I have a cough, but I ran a race yesterday. I felt horrible during, horrible after, and horrible looking at my time.

usually it depends how bad it is.

If there is a fever I'd say no. But just a cold seems to help clear things out, know what I meann?? yeah, the worst part is just making yourself go outside when all you want to do is sleep. Neutral

Keep running if you can just take it easy for a while.

your body is fighting off an infection which stresses out your body, running stresses your body even more. This being said it kinda depends on how bad you are sick. If you had just a cough and a sore throat then fine, but since you have had this for more then 2 weeks it means it is pretty bad. I would say just stay away from training for right now.

maybe try a 5 min warm up, and if you feel awful take a day off and get lots of sleep.
otherwise just do a few average/light runs until you start to feel better.

my thinking is that missing a day or two of training is a lot better than having your cold drag out for even longer. while running is supposed to make you feel better, if its a death shuffle there isn't really a point. so i guess just listen to your body, and get lots and lots of sleep. i hope you feel better- colds that last forever suck.

I know that your immune system's more vulnerable after a run. That's what I heard from someone at least. If it's a cold, I say you should still practice but maybe back down a bit if you don't feel 100% during the run.

thanks for the responses guys Smile

I took today off because I feel dizzy and can't even breathe out of my nose. I think I have some sort of sinus infection..

I'm going to have to work hard after this. I haven't been training as much as i should because of basketball and extra school work..
