Post by Tri Babe 518 Sat Oct 04, 2008 5:31 pm

So today at the cross country meet I was really nervous and I had a lot of energy. I normally start out pretty fast but its also decently conservative. Today, however, I sprinted like a bat out of hell and I was in first place out of 200 girls. My coach said that what I ran was equivalent to a 64 or 66 second 400. So I have offically decided that I am going to run the 400 in track. HELL YES

So what would a 1:04 400 convert to for the 800?

2:08? assuming your coach was right, and you could hold that pace for twice as long.

2.08 for a girl is insane...
    1.04 is more like a 2.20

Um, that's a little hasty. A 64 is not amazingly fast. It shows potential. Not 2:08 or even 2:20 potential. 2:20 is still very fast for a girl. I know 58 girls who can't run under 2:25 and 2:20 girls who can only get 61-63. Just saying. Don't worry about it now and if you really are good at it you will blossom when the time comes.

calm down, she asked what 1:04 would convert for twice the distance>>2:08. i figured most people would be smart enough to assume she wont run a 2:08 Razz

I think a 64 is roughly equivalent to a 2:20. Especially if the girl has a background in XC.

well, if she was going for 2.20, she probably wouldn't run the first lap at an allout 400m sprint
if she did and somehow repeated that then yes it would be a 2:08 but if a 64 is an all out everything you got, then you wouldnt get 2.08 for the 800 because you would run the first one a lil slower so you could do it again

^^so like you said, even splits

When I ran the 64 it wasn't an all out because it was right at the beginning of an XC meet. I still ran 5k after and sprinted at every mile marker and at the final 400. So, I guess I could've given more. We'll see in the spring...
Plus I've been doing a ton of tri training and not a lot of speedwork so...

    4 second rule
assuming that 400 was correct and your max effort..

you would take 64 +4(5 in a girls case)

so 69 and multiply it by 2 putting you at 2.18 assuming you have endurance.

im gonna go ahead and say no.

hmmm I'm guessing you would run about a 2.26 (throwin it out there) if thats what you truly ran and can hold it.

    Thats a good time though.
