A Little Early... Empty A Little Early...

Post by PCNQtrack Sun Aug 31, 2008 11:06 pm

I know its early to be thinking about track but i just realized something. For the first time I now know what kinds of miles you have to put in to be good and I really want to have a great year of track. Now winter miles would be no problem...except for a thing called wrestling.

I will be waking up at six to go to school and wrestling isn't over until 5 or later. And I'll be completely dead after that torture is over. So should I just plan on running my miles in the morning before school...and how will 4 months of wrestling affect my times come spring?

They're both decent forms of cross training. Just do some running on the weekend and your fitness will not forever be tarnished although swimming is a lot better than wrestling, you can still keep your level of fitness up. Don't worry about running too much because you're going to be stressing your mind and body out with all the activities going on.

Our wrestlers actually run quite a bit, most of them do xc at my school do gear up for wrestling. And they're pretty good so something must be working..but just run on the weekends like CT said ^. Its not much but its either that or quit wrestling I Guess =/

But seriously, either wrestle or run, it's your choice. You can still keep a good level of fitness up if you wrestle, but if you want to reach your full running potential you'll have to give it up.

Our wrestlers also run a quite a bit and I know they do 4 miles sometimes because they'll tell me about it. But if I think you should be fine if you wrestle. You'll still be in shape the whole time till track from it so it shouldn't hurt you at all.

I doubt his career is going to be running. If he enjoys wrestling there's nothing wrong with it. You don't have to dedicate your life to running and I'm sure he just wants to not suck when outdoor comes, which he won't by normal circumstances.

I was thinking about swimming, I just swim like crap lol. I want to stay in shape over the winter, I just hate running in cold/snow and it's hard for me to find a treadmill I can use so I end up losing motivation to go out after a while.

Same here. I'm contemplating quitting swimming though so I can focus on running more, but I'm still not sure if I want to give it up yet. Neutral

If you decided to run and wrestle, wrestling would probably help your running a little bit, as long as you focus on staying in a lower weight group.

You will lose a little bit if you don't run at all during the winter but if you enjoy wrestling then do it, runnning may be important to you but it isn't the only thing.

i only do xc and track, so i dont have that problem, thank goodness. I know a lot of people that do multiple sports, and they are good at all of them, but they never have enough time to get really strong in one.

Why would it? Provided you don't hurt yourself it is cross training. Just keep your miles up.
