What the hell??? Empty What the hell???

Post by PCNQtrack Thu Aug 21, 2008 9:50 pm

Ok, so last week we had our first track workout for XC. It was 5 400s with each one faster than before. I did them in 82, 79, 74, 68, 64 for an average of like 73. That was just with one mile warmup.

This week we did the same workout but we did it after a 4.5 mile run and i did 79, 75, 71, 69, 68 for like a 72 average.

The only problem was today i felt horrible and my legs just died the last 400 and i had no turnover. Would this just be because of the closer pace or the longer warmup or what?

Looks pretty consistant (time-wise) to me.

Have your other workouts been different? Working different muscles groups?

Maybe you were just tired. Or maybe your warmup was too fast.

    I wouldn't sweat it.

Well it just angers me because the kid i really want to beat this season was struggling with me the whole way and ran a 62 last 400 and everyone on my team that i thought i was faster than had good times.

So work harder the rest of the season and beat the kid.

One workout doesn't make the difference. Ride his shoulder. If you can't beat him, at the very least make sure he has nightmares about you Wink

I can understand your frustration though.

Its just one workout. Maybe he was having a good day and you weren't, like kugar said dont sweat it.

I too understand what that is like, and how I feel like everyone is judging me after that one workout.

As a matter of fact, that happened to me today during 800s. Loads of runners are perfectionists. So use that mindset. If you let it get into your head in a negative way, instead of using it to perform better, it's just going to **** with you later.

Are you telling me you've never had a random run where your legs felt heavy or you felt like crap? This is all that is, except you happened to be doing a workout. Or it was just that you ran 4.5 miles before it.....

It could also be that you've been running LSD for the past two months and your body hasn't fully recovered from running it's first anaerobic workout in a while.

+1. my last 2 1000s tuesday were slower than I wanted them to be. & you really do have to be in the right mindset or else you're messed up. just use that experience to get better next time Very Happy

    Psh, fools.
One mile warm-up will only stimulate slow twitch muscles.
    Which are horrible for speed.
    durrr

4.5 miles won't stimulate that many fast twitch either, but it will give all your major muscles systems a thorough warm up on a sunny day, which is all you really need.

honestly, you silly people make me laugh.

So i guess now what i'm wondering is just out of curiosity, is it better to have a faster average speed or to get the faster last splits?

I would say a combination, just don't go too slow for the first 2 or 3.

The 4.5 mile warmup was probably more benificial to answer the original question (sometimes it takes me about 7 to feel good).

But I would say the average pace is better, but just make sure you aren't starting so fast (to raise the average) that you can't finish the last one faster. You really want to ingrain into your head that you need to always finish hard.

there are a million things that could have caused your legs to feel slightly more tired this time than last time. i wouldn't even begin to try and figure it out exactly, haha.

like maybe you walked around more the day before or you didn't eat enough protein after your last workout. i mean, that's what i always think.

but maybe there IS something specific like your warm up that caused it i guess. :] i'm no help
