    Army Empty Army

    Post by Hurdle-Gurl Tue Aug 12, 2008 11:38 am

Today my sister leaves for Basic Training. Sucks because we're really close and she can't call anyone for 9 weeks. After Basic is over the chances of her getting deployed to Iraq is quite high...probably 6 months from now is what they're thinking. I'm kinda nervous for her. No She's never really done anything this big before on her own so... Plus she's going to miss my XC season and that really means a ton to me. She told me to keep her updated by sending her all of my newspaper clippings for the XC season.
~Is anyone else going through something kinda like this where a family member is in the army or over seas?

Not quite sure. School wasn't going too well so I think she just felt like doing something else for a while and then would go back to it. Plus her boyfriend is in the Army too so he kinda had an influence in a way. She considered it when she was in High School but could never go through with it...now she's 21 and she decided to finally just join.

during peace-time the army can actually be a pretty sweet gig(it pays for college, makes companies want to hire you, etc.), but this might not have been the best time to join....but depending on what she does it can be safe. for example, my grandpa was an electronics/radio guy for the Navy in the korean war and he never had to fight.

She'll be fine. Stay in touch will her. One of my team mates joined the Navy. Of course he can't do anything now because he is in school but once he gets out he can start training with them.
