Sports Authority Ad
It is an ad for the new Nike Air Pegasus 25+. It says run like Alan Webb, only slower. Shouldn't it be faster? I don't know why he gets into all these ads when he hasn't done anything lately. And he still is getting recognition for his 3:46 mile.

WTF are you guys talking about?
Perhaps the rangiest American runner ever who holds the American record in the Mile isn't worth being in advertisements?

Not after a year after the record.

not during the olympics he isn't in. i'm all for webb, but right now the spotlight should be on the distance track athletes that made it there.ProtestTheZero wrote:WTF are you guys talking about?

Ya, I'm sure Lagat has time to sign with every sports company that wants to put an ad out.AudienceOfOne wrote:not during the olympics he isn't in. i'm all for webb, but right now the spotlight should be on the distance track athletes that made it there.ProtestTheZero wrote:WTF are you guys talking about?

They have the right to use whoever they can to promote their stuff. Personally, I like Webb more than Lagat as far as representing my country goes, since I, you know, remember when Lagat was running for Kenya.
The company can do what they damn well please. Half the people who run track know more about Webb than any of the other olympians anyway.

lagat's a pretty popular name, most people who've heard of webb have heard of lagat.ProtestTheZero wrote:Ya, I'm sure Lagat has time to sign with every sports company that wants to put an ad out.AudienceOfOne wrote:not during the olympics he isn't in. i'm all for webb, but right now the spotlight should be on the distance track athletes that made it there.ProtestTheZero wrote:WTF are you guys talking about?

Re: Sports Authority Ad
I think Webb is still a more know name and advertisers like big names. Webb is still a great runner and still has the record. I don't see why everyone thinks he sucks.

Re: Sports Authority Ad
Who cares? Lagat can't shoot for an ad right before the olympics anyway.
Fail.
Fail.

Re: Sports Authority Ad
The obvious answer is that it would have been easy to tell which legs belonged to Lagat in that pic...JK srsly Lagat has run 1500's that equate to a 3:43 mile but he hasn't run 3:46 in a mile because he doesn't race the mile. and since nobody is familiar with the 1500, Webb's mile pr is more impressive. Also, white runners make for better marketing, which is sad but true.

Re: Sports Authority Ad
Yea it's all about marketability. Webb is more marketable and who really cares in the first place. Less than 1% of America follows running in depth and I'm sure more runners know Webb than Lagat. Again, who cares and what's the big deal.

Re: Sports Authority Ad
You're absolutely right. We should all go out there and run 85 mpw during our taper for the OTs. It also must be composed largely of sub-3:50y paced intervals and repeats.T B K wrote:It is an ad for the new Nike Air Pegasus 25+. It says run like Alan Webb, only slower. Shouldn't it be faster? The guy didn't run a 4:20 or something (coughbigtenindoorcough), he just set himself up to peak at the wrong time.

I think he was saying that better advertising for the shoes would be "If you buy these shoes, you'll run faster!" rather than a blunt reminder that the shoes won't make you run like the elites. He wasn't questioning Webb's speed.

I was making a joke. They also used Kara Goucher for the ad which is good because she is actually going to the olympics.
