I try and use whever ice i can get my hands on, typically its just whatever our freezer makes and some tupperwares that i fill with water
if i'm at a hotel or something before a race i love using those machines and completely filling up the tub

I like them, but I usually only take them during the season. Sometimes we do it as a team, but I imagine it's a little weird for people walking by to see 7 girls all standing around in trashcans looking cold.

QUESTION
Do ice baths work better if you take them right after practice?
I usually take mine a couple hours after I get home etc.. so maybe thats why they dont work.

I always thought so (coach says it has something to do with closing off capilaries, but I don't really know). Maybe try one right after practice and see if it helps more than the later ones.

Re: Ice Baths: Love em' or hate em'
I accually took my first ice bath today, it was more painful then I thought it would be, but it seemed to make my legs more refreshed right after and was worth the pain so imo IceBaths = <3

I've never done them. How are you supposed to do it without a tall container like a trash can?

You can use a bathtub, or a plastic crate.FinishingKick wrote:I've never done them. How are you supposed to do it without a tall container like a trash can?

Ice baths are great... nothing like one after a very hard workout and great 2 days before a race

Is it possible to do too many. During summer i find myself doing them 6-7 days a week

Re: Ice Baths: Love em' or hate em'
That's probably fine. According to my coach, we can take them as many times as we want without being harmful.PCNQtrack wrote:Is it possible to do too many. During summer i find myself doing them 6-7 days a week

If you're cold and warm up too fast your heart can stop, right? How come something like that doesn't work for taking ice baths when you're really hot?

I would not recomend taking them right after a run because its a real shock... Try to get a really good stretch in/cool down before you take them that way your body temp/heart rate has time to decrease from where it was during your run. Also never run directly after one. Give your body time to warm up then get a real good warm up in before doing anything too dificult.

it's not the same, and it only is supposed to cover your legs.FinishingKick wrote:If you're cold and warm up too fast your heart can stop, right? How come something like that doesn't work for taking ice baths when you're really hot?

Re: Ice Baths: Love em' or hate em'
ice baths in the summer never work for me because the water is too warm. i put the ice in the "cold" water and it melts right away. it helps a little bit though, so i do one once a week.
