Is anyone else in band on here?
Hmm...I'll be the first to admit that I am, yes Hurdle-Gurl, is a Bando. Laughing
If you are in band does your school do marching band & put on half-time shows?

Yup. We focus more on marching competitions. The half-time shows are just secondary and we just kind of dick around.

Neither our band nor XC team gets anything...we have to raise it on our own. Sad
Doesn't make sense as to why we spend so much money on Football & Basketball here for new uniforms every year when they suck & band & XC are pretty much amazing.

Ha, band at our school is a joke! You people are lucky if you have good / ok band programs. ( to answer the question, yes, our marching band does half time shows and parades in the area)

But anyway, our band director was an idiot. He had absolutely no interest in band music... he was more into guitars and stuff like that... which would be fine, except that he was the band director, so he needed to have at least some interest. So basically all we ever talked about in band was either what we did over the weekend (coincidentally everyone who participated in these discussions had lame lives, haha... no, I'm serious.) or some random band that nobody had heard of and probably wasn't any good. ... and I could go more in depth about the reasons why he was bad... but you probably don't want to hear them because this is already really long.

So yeah. As a result, we sucked. I mean, we were so bad. Well, I shouldn't say we... I actually practiced quite frequently. Unfortunately, no one else did. So for those who actually wanted to take it seriously and be good, it was a horrible waste of time. So I quit. Which sucks, because I really did like playing... but I also didn't have enough time for my private lessons.

so, sorry about the rant! haha

I played Trumpet in the marching band for 2 years in the 4a class. We lost once in 19 compettions then I quit to focus on running. It was sorta fun I hated marching band I wanted to shoot everyone there and burn them and bury there ashes in there band room
but, anyway I liked like concert band just sitting and playing.

    What do you play hurdle?

dont worry, my band director was bi-polar and would cry if we didn't make it through a song. Like seriously she freaked me out, she was always crying and if you asked her a question she would go "YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT".. luckily I taught myself how to play piano and stuff when I was little so I already knew most of the stuff; but no one else did so I pretty much helped everyone =/ and when we had a sub I was always the conductor. Mad which I hated because its almost like giving a speech silent

I hated that class with a passion, especially marching it was embarrasing. I quit last year along with a bunch of people now its only down to like 20 and they sound terrible (worse then we already did) I feel really bad but that class was giving me ulcers haha. But now she hates me and wont even talk to me, but its okay.

Oh I play the French Horn. F Horn in Marching Band.
We always joke around and call it my F-ing Horn. Last week we had Band Camp (lol) & I seriously felt like shooting someone or something (I'm really not violent) because it was freakin 90 degrees and we in the sun for about 4 hours straight...errg!

Our band director is pretty much amazing! We went from getting 4's @ festival with a different director to the his first year getting 1's and making it to the State competition.

Oh, just thought of this, another reason why I quit was that everyone (well, not everyone, but most) had serious personal hygiene issues. This would include the 2 other french horns who sat on either side of me, and the drummers who stood behind me, and the saxophones in front of me. I was surrounded!!!!! it was sooooo gross. eek

Football games everyone is there at CC invites almost nobody who doesn't run or no anybody on there go's just for the hell of it. Carry on

Yea it's like a mellophone. I like mine because the school only had one last year so they had to buy me a new one since there are two of us that need it. It's all pretty & shiny still. Very Happy
But there is one little scratch I noticed the other day... Sad lol

I'm in band and our band is really big for such a small school. We always march in the fall of the year at a parade in town and then once in the spring in a parade. We really focus on regional and state music contest and our band dominates in the regional level since every other band is so small.

Our teacher is nice but gets pretty grouchy when it gets close to contest. This year we had 40 events from our school going to the state music contest and that's for choir and band.
