    Post by TnF_T Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:41 pm

This is a very interesting piece on the pollution that the athelets will have to face this summer in the beijing olympics.
    http://track.flocasts.org/videos/play/70318-olympic-haze-beijing-08

What do you guys think of the pollution in beijing and how it will affect the athletes?

In the first place, I don't even think the IOC should have picked beijing as the olympic host if they knew that the pollution would be so bad that it would interfere with the performances and athletes in certain events. ie: Geb not running the marathon. The chinese say that they're cleaning up the pollution and that it won't be a problem come august but i think that's a load of bullshit.

this is what someone told me, I dont know if its true or not: but there was a man from beijing on the olympic commitee who was about to retire and suggested they had the olympics there. It was something along those lines, and it might be wrong I dunno.

exactly, you can't clean up air pollution that factories have caused and the factories aren't gonna stop working for the olympics.

^yeah, they look at like reasons why it should be in the certain city and stuff, usually like a whole bunch of cities think about it and the comittee narrows it down and stuff. like for example for 2016
    non-selected applicant cities
    Prague, Czech Repub
    Doha, Qatar
    Baku, Azerbaijan

    narrowed down to candidate cities.
    Chicago, US
    Madrid, Spain
    Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
    Toyko, Japan

I don't even know what the hell that is but the narrowed down cities would probably be pretty polluted too. I know tokyo for sure and possibly rio, dont know about chicago or madrid

Edit: Do you think there will be long term health affects will the pollution...asthma attacks possibly as well?
