Checkin in from the Trials Empty Checkin in from the Trials

    Post by 5280ft Sat Jun 28, 2008 11:40 pm

Hey guys, I'm here from the Trials. I'm sure you've already seen the results but I'll give you what I've seen. Shalane won the 10k, she led for a little bit, so did Amy Begley. Kara Goucher took over the lead towards the end, but Shalane wouldn't let her get away. She took off in the last lap. Those three lapped almost the entire field, pretty amazing considering they are all elite. On their victory lap, I was towards the finish, they made it to the water jump and the photographers made them stop at it to take pictures. After that, they started to turn around. Everyone on my side of the stadium groaned, they smiled and came back towards us. Amy Begley slapped my hand. I was excited, I know, I'm lame.
Chanelle Price, as you already know, didn't make it out of the first round. There was a little bit of near-tumbles going on, she was in one, so maybe that had something to do with it, she almost fell. Laura Roesler, a 10th grader, made it to the second round, amazing, she hung on so that she showed she deserved to be there, but finished last in the heat.
The men's 800s were pretty fascinating, and competitive. Usually, whoever took it out faded.
Tyson Gay broke the U.S. record, probably to make up for what he did the round before. He had taken off early, but at about 60m, he completely let up, almost as if he had finished. I'm not sure if he thought he had finished or was sure he had it in the bag, but he had been the clear leader and finished 4th.
That's all for now, sorry if I spelled any names wrong, I didn't look them up.

Oh yah, in the semi-finals for the women's 800, there was a spill. Personally, it kind of looked like someone got pushed. Anways (sorry, I don't remember the names) someone fell and a few others tripped over. I think the last place person, who fell, finished in 2:19. They let Teter, who was a favorite advance though. Despite falling, she still finished in, I believe, 2:10 or something.
It's really hot and humid here, it was in the 90s today. But the crowd is good and supportive, huge too. The stadium is beautiful.

Then again, her body may be fully matured, while you have about another 10 years until you reach your peak.

Tyson Gay..........can anyone say much more about the trials?
If he had finished 5th, it would have been such a big travesty simply put because if he can run a 9.77 while letting up slightly at the line, he might be able to run a 9.71 on full, and go for gold.

Laura is a middle distance runner to a sprinter so her xc time isn't outstanding, but she still won state. At state track she ran the 100, 200, 400, and 800 and won all of those for the 2nd year in a row. Her time last year at state in the 800 was a 2:17 and this year her time was 2:10, and one other thing is that she has no competition here. No one can run those kinds of times in North Dakota which could explain a time drop.
