Do any of your friends (or people you know) critisize you about running?

Sometimes my dumb ass friends say that long distance running is easy and that good runners arn't athletes. They think it's such an easy sport, it makes me want to take them to a race I run in and kick their asses to show who's the real athlete. Also one the kids critisizing me weighs 190 and is only 5 foot 6...

OH MY GOSH YES!!!!!! It really pisses me off. Especially when people don't know what triathlon is and then when I tell them they're all like "Oh, I could do that. And beat you."

I really don't think they realize how much goes into the sport and how I don't do it just for the social aspect (which is basically why everyone at my school plays a sport). It's alot of work and no one gets it...

all the time. my friends don't consider it a real sport and are always like "why would you want to just run. that sounds boring." last month one of our football players got hurt and couldn't play football so he joined crosscountry to be with his friends. the first practice he went to was mile repeats and the frist thing he said when we were done was "I got a lot more respect for you guys now...you do this everyday?"

No one gets it until they've tried it.

We have people on our team who make fun of xc..they're just doing in for wrestling or basketball. Liike they were making fun of all the short shorts and hiking them up to their belly button then going "woo i'm in xc!!" why would you join a sport then make fun of it??

w/e. One of them is actually decent so we're just ignoring it.

The soccer players at our school are generally so mean to us about how non-sportlike xc is.
Then, when they get cut from soccer because they suck, they join xc and generally quit after a week or so saying it is too hard.

not really lol.
runners don't really get made fun of at my school mainly because no one else can run 9 miles at one time lol.

ya, i mostly hear stuff like that. People arnt my friends if they are not going to respect what i do.
ya, my friends think im crazy to do a sport like xc because they know it takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

nobody really disses on xc at my school lol. thats what the boy's volleyball/badminton teams are for

By university there isn't a lot of making fun going on. Most people who I talk to are in awe of the kind of workouts we do.

im in ms and people still really really respect us actually. especially in my city because we have two decent programs.

A lot of dissing at our school since they assume that because we were terrible last year our team must not run 60-70 mile weeks. The biggest thing is that everyone makes fun of boys xc for the short shorts.

I think a lot of people don't really understand that a race is running your guts out for 3.1 miles, a lot of them think we're just jogging. A lacrosse player joined xc this year to stay in shape for indoor and lacrosse, and today he said its the hardest thing he's ever done.

Last year our two top runners beat the shit out of three football players for making fun of their shorts. It was quite the sight.

No one makes fun of xc at my school. Right now volleyball is the joke in our school. Even the volleyball players know it. They talk about how the football team is unbeaten so it balances out since the volleyball team has only won 3 games.

so far they've won 2 and they're like on cloud 9. haha only their second win was a 2b school (which has like 500 kids in the whole district) I dont know why they were so proud of that. I cant stand the vb girls, soccer is cool because they respect us. Football players hate us too (ookay not the girls =P )

ERGH rant:
alright so far our boys have one 2 out of 3 meets which is pretty good for us. On the announcements they never say boy xc team wins they just read out the scores. Since no one knows how xc works they think that a low score is bad and they always laugh erghhhhh it really pisses me off. Then they laugh even more when it says girls team was incomplete (not enough girls) =[

cry about it. it doesnt matter seriously guys. cc isnt a big deal in less you live in western north dakota, but i still run. eventually you get the fans. and if you guys deserve respect you get it.

only some football players make fun of xc but then they go and do track. but everybody else i know just tells me that they wish they could run well.

Yesterday a football player was walking by and he said nice shorts.

I said nice tights.
